We're going a little off piste with something new on SB this week... We welcome returning mad scientist Scruscru with his buddy Mike Fot who came to us with the beginnings of a weird and wonderful new off shoot series called Spliff Jamz. 

Following a series of visits to Moscow between 2018 and 2020 to play at Powerhouse club, Scruscru would swing by Mike Fot’s apartment for a smoke and a jam session, working with a variety of Roland and Korg gear late into the night. The results of these sessions have led to a series of EPs; with the first four tracks ready for your ears right now.

My Friend Dario is back on his home label Hell Yeah with a new EP that continues his journey through Balearic beats. Sonica Jonica is an homage to the Mar Jonio coast on the Ionian sea and will appeal to fans of his NuNorthern Soul release last year.

The title track opens up with looping synths rising up from below in dramatic fashion. They're filled with tension as the chugging drums and fat bass roll on and after a break in the heaviness, the dark disco groove returns again. 'Marittimo' then cuts loose on jazzy chords with tumbling toms, percussion, shakers and marimbas all bringing a sunny open-air sound.
'Old But Gold' is perfect dance floor disco bliss with its leggy drums and splashy hits run through with curious and colourful synth sounds. Last of all, 'Acid Mosquito In Summer Night' mixes up 60s psyche, dark funk, freaky disco and expect percussion into an ever-evolving workout that sounds like little else.

With this first fresh EP, My Friend Dario has served up some perfect grooves for summer.

Elaquent en Poldoore. En om die release in de verf te zetten presenteren we graag een exclusieve gratis track van de Leuvenaar, ‘Jordan’ – een dikke clubtrack die al enkele maanden steevast gedraaid wordt door o.a. Lefto. Crackazat needs little by way of introduction having released some of the biggest soul-drenched, deep and jazzy cuts on the likes of Local Talk, Futureboogie and Z Records.  Bristolian (now relocated to Sweden) Ben Jacobs wears his jazz influences proudly on his sleeve.  His one-man live show sees him killing bass guitar and keyboards moves over the top of MAW-esque beats creating that holy grail of emotive, heartfelt music which never loses sight of the dancefloor. Ben already has two LP’s under his belt, as well as a host of remixes for Mousse T and Peven Everett, Joey Negro and Tom Misch and we’re proud to announce him for his Freerange debut. 

Opening track Valentine acts as a calling card for what Crackazat does best.  Fat, stripped back, raw, swinging house beats straight out of the Mood II Swing handbook.  Live bass and jazzy piano bring an unashamedly musical edge that can’t help but bring the heat to the Dancefloor.  Tried and tested by Jimpster, this one is a serious head turner and shows why many are citing Ben as a talent who is knocking hard on the door of Kenny and Louie.  

Next up is Back Of My Heart, a more tracky affair with shuffling beats, deep, rising pads and side-chained arpeggios pumping with a fat kick drum. One to get well and truly lost in at 4am. Flipping over we have I Heard You which uses a similar sonic palette to Valentine: crisp beats with driving offbeat hats, lush piano chords and soaring Moog line all making for a serious ear-worm of a tune which you can’t help but bounce to.

Finally, Detroit luminary Patrice Scott gets busy on the remix of Back Of My Heart.  The Sistrum label boss brings his Midas touch, delivering a deeper, late night mood which subtly evolves, introducing new piano parts and bassline whilst keeping the rolling, unrelenting groove on track.
