Dropping their second Corpus compilation, Ransom Note Records offshoot Insult To Injury showcases gems from the label, past and present. Focusing on remixes from early digital releases, augmented with a brand new mix of Timothy Clerkin, these four dance floor weapons see a release on their rightful format, 12” wax. 

Opening proceedings with a meditative, shadowy remix of Timothy Clerkin’s Primary Function, Berlin’s Shokh takes us down into the depths, showcasing his masterful production skills with a lofi trip into the darkness.

'Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.

Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

The artwork was provided by Bill Brown, a Maryland native who lives and works in Ukraine. When the war started, he made his way safely to Germany via Poland. This illustration is an homage to Maria Prymachenko’s “May That Nuclear War be Cursed!”, which also inspired the title of this release. The metal body of the plane shook as it hurtled down the runway, and a deafening rumble drowned out all other noise, he felt the pressure on his torso as the speed pushed him back into his seat. He’d never got used to flying, even though he had to do it regularly, he thought it was strange to become accustomed to something that felt so extraordinarily terrifying. But all of these thoughts faded away as the plane ascended into the night sky. He peered out the tiny window as the ground moved further away, and the lights that kept the city illuminated transformed into an abstract formation of glowing grids and lines. He thought it wouldn’t be long till he was back in Belgrade, and all the feelings of terror seemed worth it. 

MR TC’s ‘20/44’ comes from a compilation presented by Orchid-AM, an artist management agency based in Manchester. For Unity Orchid has asked some of the artists on their roster to come up with new music within seven days, and considering the impact that the pandemic has had on the live music industry, each artist has dedicated their track to a club that they hold close to their heart, and all the sales will be shared equally between the artists and the clubs. This particular track is a downtempo electro affair, with classic drum machine sounds, droning synths and gated vocals. The club it borrows its name from is a small club in a boat moored on the Sava river in Belgrade, dancers know it for its special views of the morning sun.

"The first track we would like to present you is “Sisterhood” by Donato Dozzy. This track was made specially to be played at Diapason, much before this compilation was even designed. Donato made it and said “now this is yours, girls!” And we called it Sisterhood, to celebrate ourselves and the spirit of our nights.

Donato came to play for us one night late July last Summer at Sameheads. The other special guest of the night was our friend Simon Heidemann. We gave the episode of Diapason the title “Summer of Love”. That night it was beautiful to see such a mixed crowd coming together on our dance floor. Many were visiting Sameheads for the first time. Despite the heat, I think we all felt the breeze when this master, who needs no introductions, softly spread his magic......."

Diapason is a Neukoelln based events series created by Ondula and Eva Geist, inspired by obscure music culture, experimental art and experiences of life in suburban communities of outsiders. With Petra Péterffy’s morphic graphics and animations, Diapason has become a much anticipated bi-monthly appointment for the Sameheads audience.

The recent lockdown forced Sameheads to cancel our latest two episodes. Shifting to this hidden virtuality, we want to keep the tradition alive and have reached out to some of our past guests and assembled a Diapason Compilation Tape Vol. 1 featuring new music from some of the artists who inspired us.
