On the Saturday night of Monument Festival 2024, amenthia recordings co-founder agonis delivered a legendary session of futuristic, crystalline electronics. With the dancers engulfed in thick fog and red lasers, and the newly upgraded sound system of the Varden stage at his command, agonis drenched the crowd with tidal waves of finely tuned, precision psychedelia that was crafted specifically for the Norwegian forest. Warm, emotive, and explorative - a set of characteristics that make up the enchanting vision of Zara (@zaraolsen), one of the most exciting talents hailing from the Australian scene. Whether it’s IDM, drum and bass, or techno, the Kinesis label-head fuses it all with an enigmatic sense of delicacy. Her distinctive sound on the crossroads of the calm and the energetic resulted in releases on labels such as Animalia, Salt Mines, and Pure Space. Her sets have been turning heads within the international electronic music scene, playing at places like De School, Tresor, and Donato Dozzy’s Spazio Disponsible label showcase. Harmonizing the ethereal and the ominous - Zara takes a gentle yet firm grip on minds and souls on and off the dancefloor.

Mostra (@mostrabcn) is an independent, small-format festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music which emerged by the end of 2021 as a counterpoint to the macro-festivals and the overcrowded, commercial and impersonal offerings of other large events held in Barcelona. Mostra will be celebrating its fourth edition from 17 to 20 April in 2025.

On April 22nd, Mostra took over Espacio Perpendicular for a few hours.

Mostra is an independent, small-scale festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music that was born four years ago to nurture the Barcelona scene. Mostra is local, inclusive, and sustainable. An independent festival made in Barcelona for Barcelonans, but with international vision and reach.

The event, which took place during the day, featured performances by Mattikk, Emilia Grima, Pillen, Doozer, Haara, and F-on.

With Mostra Festival just over a week away, we’re wrapping up our editorial run with a conversation and a mix from Peter Van Hoesen. His work has always sat slightly outside the frame: techno, ambient, experimental, but never quite typical of any. Instead of chasing momentum, he’s built a practice around attention to sound, to context, and to the possibilities of performance.

At Mostra, he’ll step into a rare DJ role, playing a drum & bass set shaped by years of quietly following the genre’s more experimental edges. In this exchange with Griff and Zach, he reflects on what still draws him to that sound, how his relationship to playing out has shifted, and why intention matters more than ever. The mix he’s shared alongside the interview follows that same line — precise, considered, and wide open. A final entry before we gather next Thursday at Fabra i Coats in Barcelona.

For this special edition of the Bloom Loops podcast, we're honoured to welcome Ario — founder and curator of the acclaimed Astral Industries label. Widely respected for its impeccable curation and timeless releases, Astral Industries has carved out a unique space in the world of ambient and experimental electronic music, with each release offering a meticulously crafted sonic journey.

In this recording, Ario brings that same curatorial sensibility to the decks, guiding us on a deep and expansive journey. It begins with a psychedelic abduction to another world, and as the mix gradually unfolds you emerge into an expansive world of progressive and vintage tech house before dissolving into deep, swirling tribal techno. True to Ario's refined aesthetic, it is a set that balances both introspection and propulsion.

Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees.

We take off to continue our voyage joining the dots of The Continuum, and this was the time our mission gave in to the pull of a force that, since day one, has been beeping in our sonic radar and marked as a ‘not to miss’. We explore total outlandish territory here with a unique selector that challenges genres, labels, and preconceptions. We salute Josephine’ Soundscapes.

Josephine’ Soundscapes is the moniker of Jose Salas, an audiovisual creator, art director, and active promoter of alternative culture in Madrid. When it comes to music, he has been an active participant in shaping Madrid’s underground electronic music scene for over 20 years. Founder and collaborator of many musical and cultural projects over the years, his current ones include Campos de Marte, an expanded radio project dedicated to experimental music, and the curation of Temple, a series of listening sessions at Espacio Perpendicular.

And that would be an “official” glimpse at his resume. But the gravity magnet of Josephine’s musical choices gets out the personal in me.

And CHOICES here is the word. Because what makes Jose’s sound impossibly unique is his brave choices. Placing himself in the crossroads of experimental, ambient, avant-garde and electronics is not a chance. His landing space has enabled him to explore, what I believe, is his superpower: a keen eye for mega-bold selections. He embodies the concept of “the sound you didn’t know you needed” and does so to an extreme. I have never heard stylistic picks like his ones, but the resulting collage often conveys a similar something: anachronistic sounds that bring psychedelia of past times. A touch of absurdism. Contemporary WTF-ism. A mastery of the surreal. And, having been lucky enough to attend to a couple of his in-person rituals, his takes always blow minds, make audience connect with each other, smile in joyous disbelief, and ask “are we really listening to this, right now, and works so well?”. 

What we present today for the next chapter in The Continuum is the re-recording of his set for a dreamy event put together by Mostra and Introspective Electronics in London. A special selection focusing on women, as the event took place on the 8th of March. Get ready for a take on psychedelia like you have never heard before. And welcome to a musical world not bound by space or time, where anything and everything can fit, and where the master selector will pick the most unexpected. Welcome to Josephine’ Soundscapes.
