This fifth episode is realized by Vardae, part of EWO and Ouroboros. Vardae is a project with the ambition of breaking away from the genre barrier, to explore new sounds territory around the love of psychedelic music. 

His productions and performances result in a percussive and hypnotic sound, a combination of tribal rhythms, repetitive leads and atmospheric textures which navigates from dub to tribe, passing through techno and drum’n’bass.

German producer & DJ, Aa Sudd, is known for his cutting edge releases on legendary labels such as Midgar as Aa Sudd, amenthia recordings as Konsudd (along with Konduku), Mirror Zone as Vector Trancer and more. He is also the host of the outstanding Hyperterranean show on Lyl radio.

As an artist his sound is deeply psychedelic with complex and unconventional rhythms, seamlessly fusing techno, broken beats and drum n bass.

Patric Kimman dives into the deeper side of ambient and experimental music in his monthly radio show on South London’s Balamii radio station (@balamii), under his alias Paduan (@padduan). He is also one of the organisers behind the Into the Universes audiovisual event series that focuses on ambient music and moving visual art in Amsterdam. This mix went a bit more into downtempo territory than his normal sonic excursions on Balamii.

For our sixteenth instalment we’ve invited AERAE, a French DJ and producer currently making her way into the deep and tribal techno scene. 

Over the past years she played at numerous stages alongside renowned DJ’s throughout Europe under her former alias, during this period she was ever evolving as an artist. At the beginning of 2024 her debut EP 'Percussive Reverie' was released on Annulled Music, this EP set the tone for a new chapter in her musical journey. It was reviewed as ‘Best Album of the year’ on the popular German magazine GROOVE, which is a big compliment to her producing skills.

“Through this mix, I aimed to capture the feeling of a walk through an enigmatic, slightly dark forest where wild creatures lurk in the shadows. We can hear the river and birds, offering a sense of reassurance on this journey.”

Welcome to yet another hypnotic experience, in this case by the great https://soundcloud.com/mateohurtadomusic.

Mateo Hurtado creates hypnotic techno and experimental music. Inspired by the surrealist movement, obscure symbolism and ritualistic incantations, his music seeks to invoke the hidden, impossible images buried in the unconscious.

Be it as a DJ or live performer, his intuitive approach seeks to overcome conventional boundaries of the genre, sending the listener on an ever spiralling journey through polyrhythmic drumwork imbued with otherworldly melodies and dronelike, shifting atmospheric soundscapes.

He has released on labels like Annulled Music, Secuencias Temporales, Space Drum Meditation and Accents Records among others.

When I received the proposal to participate in the 5th edition of Temple, during the after-hours slot called Baptistery, I immediately knew I had the opportunity to do something completely different from what I'm used to. So, without thinking too much, I dove into my most personal records, trying to select tracks that have influenced me over the years.

You don’t always get the chance to showcase a more intimate side during a dance set, so I’m incredibly grateful to Josephine and Camu for the opportunity to put the finishing touch on such a special day as we experienced at Temple Chapter #5. And, of course, many thanks to the brave souls who stayed until the very end. XO

"This mix is really special to me. I wanted to honor Temple by playing music that moves me and rarely get the chance to play— a blend of old gems and new discoveries. I picture this session as 'free-form': The energy shifts and fluctuates throughout, keeping listeners relaxed but engaged for the next acts.

Creating this mix felt like piecing together a puzzle, selecting the tracks I was excited to listen to on the incredible sound system at Espacio Perpendicular. I also kept in mind while selecting, the comfortable and cozy setting, with the cute pillow setup on the floor and beautiful sunlight entering the big windows—making it the perfect place for everyone to really dive into the music. I got to learn, connect with seasoned listeners, and enjoy the fantastic sets of the other artists, all while embracing the sweet, mellow vibe of a gathering like Temple. I was inspired to the core with the full experience, so here are some songs I love for you all :)"

EMC welcomes Nocturnal Phase

Ernesto Bellicini aka Nocturnal Phase is a sound artist and electronic music producer based in Milan. His practice ranges from the study of the surrounding sound environment in order to create sound dramaturgies; lately also using spatialized audio systems; to the production of IDM and Breakcore music that he plays in his live shows.
He released his works for Vertical Music (In collaboration with Gaia Ginevra Giorgi and Vittoria Assembri), Fango Radio Editions @user-504256706 , Opal Tapes, @thesilverywater and Soft Verse.
His works also include radio dramas that have been broadcast on radio stations such as NTS, Fango Radio and @narr-radio.
For this occasion Nocturnal Phase put together a sound collage constituted by rack instruments, samples, and field recordings collected during years.

Dark matter cannot be seen or observed in any way, yet it is there and holds everything together, contributing more than a quarter of the total mass-energy of our universe. Such an unexplored, obscure entity has such a huge impact on our entire existence, which seems fascinating and frightening at the same time. But don’t despair! Our adept Nera is here to explore the dark phenomenon from all angles. 

Hailing from the outskirts of Amsterdam, Nera is managing editor of the renowned platform Minimal Collective, which fruitfully operates at the intersection of music, art and technology. But not only that: She also leaves her mark on the scene with her own musical vision and her well-balanced selections of psychedelic rhythms and progressive gems with perfectly timed trips into the depths of layered emotive basslines.

Nera lifts off with repetetive and minimalist structures that get soon combined with eerie atmospheres. With the addition of more playful sounds this mix gradually builds up into a mind-bending story that visits a variety of uncharted cosmic locations, culminating in heavy bassline drivers topped by intense psychedelics. In the process, Nera is developing her very own interpretation of dark hypnotism with great class. Nomen est omen!

d_o_ppelgaenger (@d_o_ppelgaenger) - aka David Ortolà - is a pianist, composer, producer, and educator. He is a partner in Estrato Aurora alongside Jaime Romero - aka Pajaro Dune (@pajaro_dune) - and co-founder of the newly launched Sediments label. The label’s inaugural release is also d_o_ppelgaenger’s debut solo album, Live at Perpendicular (2024): https://sedimentslab.bandcamp.com/.

His music and live performances explore the boundaries between acoustic and electronic soundscapes, weaving a narrative sound design that thrives on contrast and tension. Employing a wide range of aesthetics, often juxtaposed in a chiaroscuro of styles and ideas, d_o_ppelgaenger blends classical instrumentation, electronic synthesis, field recordings, and SuperCollider-based tools. His work traverses the liminal space between divergent musical languages, aiming to create immersive perceptual experiences that seek to bridge the gap between the familiar and the incomprehensible.
