After serving up some killer original tracks from Obrotka, Abstract Music now enlists the services of Nikola Gala and 
Jay Bliss to rework one of the standout cuts. 
The results, invariably, are excellent. 

Obotka has been active since the 90s, has played almost every decent club in the world and because of his excellent discography taking in labels like Deeper Digital, Abstract Music and Wasabi is a revered part of the global dance community. 

First to remix his ‘Who Needs Enemies’ cut is Romanian 2020 Vision and All Inn records associate Jay Bliss. He flips the track into a deep, rubbery house groover with muted neon 
chords & crisp percussion.
It’s a no nonsense affair with infectious and icy hi hats that really get under your skin. 

Next up, Nikola Gala is a prolific producer whose impeccably produced tracks have become big releases for Ibadan Records, Rekids, Freerange Records and Plastic City. He serves up two remixes, the first of which is a Dubby Mix of ‘Who Needs Enemies.’ Stripping things back to an 
essential, locked on groove, hunched drums, rolling hits and frazzled synth lines all make for a seductive track that is warm and organic in all the right ways. 

Finally, Gala turns out a Techy Mix of the same track that is much quicker, more urgent and banging. Metallic chords, grinding bass and indecipherable vocal cries all characterise this more physical version and it will bang in clubs as a result.

All three remixes here offer something slightly different, but something equally essential, for all the real DJs out there.

We had the honour to have one of our favourite acts remixed by Exploited mainstay Claptone. The Original Version of 'I'm Aquarius' can be found on Metronomy's recent album 'Love Letters' and is a cocktail of lo-fi synths and clipped, nocturnal rhythms. Now Claptone added some of his magic which brought us to this catchy result made to be played out in the clubs. With friendly permission from Because Music.

After opening up the account on their new label earlier this year, Krankbrother return to the imprint with two new tracks, which show off the differing shades of their musical dexterity.

Up on our Debut Transmission is A-side ‘When You’re Watching Me’, a fully formed Summer belter, which ticks all the boxes required for a modern day, sunrise dance classic. A thunderous sub-bass line booms over delicate drums, the percussion lightly soaked in reverb as the filters open and close on the soft & melodic arpeggiated riffs.

All the hallmarks of a classic piece of euphoric electronica are here, best exemplified by the syrupy female vox and Balearic tones, and a hefty breakdown that really ramps up the drama. Shades of the 90’s big guns like Underworld and Fluke are here, but perhaps more in the grandiose style in which ‘When You’re Watching Me’ has been delivered, either way, it’s most certainly one of Krankbrother’s best to date.

My hotel was pretty close to a minaret and hearing the muezzin reminded me of some old repetitive mesmerizing chants. This experience and location influenced this track and the whole EP. I like to travel to places with my music."

Today Maribou State announce 'Nervous Tics (DJ Tennis Remix)’ - the latest in a series of remixes to come from their new album “Kingdoms In Colour”, released on 7th September on Counter Records. Following a recent remix from Maceo Plex, and ahead of a forthcoming remix from Adesse Versions, DJ Tennis (founder of the Life and Death record label) takes on album highlight ‘Nervous Tics’ featuring Holly Walker on vocals with his classic touch, preserving the warmth and fragility of the original but rebuilds the track on a sleek, muscular 4/4 foundation.

As well as their upcoming Roundhouse live-show the newly formed five piece have now sold out all of their upcoming dates in 2018, and recently announced a headline show at London’s Brixton Academy on 7th March 2019 which sold over 60% of tickets in one week, as well as their first live tour of the US and further EU tour dates in 2019.

"Kingdoms In Colour” is Maribou State’s first full-length since 2015’s breakthrough debut album “Portraits”. The record entered the UK album charts at #25 and features singles ‘Feel Good’ - a collaboration born of their friendship with Houston-based trio Khruangbin; ‘Turnmills’ - aimed at raising awareness for the The Night Time Industries Association's #SaveNightlife campaign to protect the UK’s most vulnerable music venues from closure; and continues their long standing relationship with Holly Walker (vocalist on fan favourites ‘Steal’ and ‘Midas’) on ’Nervous Tics’ which is currently on the 6 Music A list.

Beginning life in 2011 as a project between Chris Davids and Liam Ivory, Maribou State had released a string of EP’s and singles before the arrival of debut album “Portraits” propelled them to the world stage. Hot Chip - Flutes (Sasha Remix)

For the first single from a 6-track EP from Montreal's Clarian (who is also one half of Footprintz), the Canadian reached well beyond the border to collaborate with Tel Aviv-born, Madrid-based producer Guy Gerber on "Claire." Gerber has been a major player on Israel's electronic scene since 2006, running his own Supplemental Facts label and infusing traces of minimal techno, tech house, downtempo and deep house in his productions, while remaining singular in his approach. Clarian's vocal contributions were at the heart of Gerber's progressive house-leaning Fabric mix from last year, which joined the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Omar-S of artists that turned in single-artist mixes to the series. "Claire" starts amid a queasy vocal snippet (with Clarian's French whisper lodged in at the midpoint) and threatens to go darker and deeper. But a steady handclap and glimmering melodic line uplifts and casts light across this seven-minute track.
