Local Heroes: Janvier - Juin 2025

Do you invest in crypto? A question Cryptofauna gets asked quite often when she meets fellow club kids at the function. But when it comes to her name, it's more about investigating than investing. The term stems from both biology and mythology and refers to all hidden animal life, mostly those living in the deepest oceans - so deep that many of them aren't even discovered yet.
For weeeirdos, the Berlin-based DJ used the opportunity to record a mix to frame the origin of her moniker. Accompanied by a cryptic text, for those who are open for some „weird ass deep sea poetry", as she puts it.

„This sultry, odd, sinister but warm mix might be my personal favorite so far. Never felt more like my artistic self than with this one, so a huge thanks goes out to all producers, to the ravers who keep this thing alive and to weeeirdos for having me."

Here my 4-hours DJ set recorded live at RSO in Berlin on the 14th December 2024. I played on Sunday morning from 08:00 to 12:00. I had so much fun, hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I’ve always loved imperfections. They make me feel more connected to whatever it is. Could be a faded polaroid with dust on it, a single cloud in an otherwise clear sky, or a clap that sounds different each time it plays. There’s something about the unpredictability, the raw edges, that makes things feel more real. Especially in music, that’s what draws me in. So when Upperberry reached out, it felt like the right moment to gather tracks that carry that same imperfect energy and to explore my own path through sound, drifting from dub into house. Fuse resident Downside delivers the ninth release on Fuse Imprint with Traces Of Spring, a record that reflects both clean articulation and careful tension building. Across four tracks, he explores a balance of intensity and restraint, depicting a narrative that mirrors his evolving role within the club.

Opening with Until It Fades, the A1 sets a hypnotic tone through patient layering and ambient space, hinting at drama while maintaining subtlety. With Blackout Protocol, the atmosphere turns into focus through an imposing, clear low-end that takes control, driving a darker framework designed for moments of deepened urgency. On the flip, Revolt moves with raw immediacy, its rhythm pushing forward with detail and weight, yet strangely uplifting. Closing with the title track, Traces Of Spring offers a suspended atmosphere, delicate in rhythm and melody, it's a reflection of the fragile balance between soft synth tension hanging by a thread and a focused, monumental pace.

With this release, Downside contributes a coherent and articulate statement to the Fuse catalogue, one that captures both the physicality of the dancefloor and the subtleties that extend beyond it.
