This mix features Seba's early work between 1996 and 1998. Included are some of his tracks as Peanut Planet, as well as some of his lesser known remix work in his native Sweden. Expect some tough beats and basslines alongside dreamy and atmospheric synths and keys.

Grooverider – Kiss 100 FM [26th January 1996]

From 1994-1997 Fabio hosted a seminal radio show on Kiss FM. He would alternate each show with Grooverider and it was the first time jungle was played on legal radio. It was essential listening for music that wouldn't normally get played out, or even heard again! These shows were a window into another world and fresh 90-minute TDKs on hot standby was standard procedure. 

For the second hour of the show, Fabio would announce "The Jazzstep coming up next...", and after a few months it became "The Legendary Jazzstep..." - this was big!

The music was jazz-influenced and driven by funk breaks, which tended to be quite loose with the patterns. It was a golden era before things got stripped back to more surgical timings seen with liquid, it also made the sound feel more organic and musical.

This mix attempts to recreate the feeling of these shows with dreamy sax, epic keyboard solos, cool double bass and the funkiest of breakbeat grooves. Featuring music from Carlito, Subject 13, Hidden Agenda, Primary Motive and early Creative Source - some of the finest drum and bass ever made.

It was recorded from a mixture of both vinyl and digital, and it wouldn't be right for the Jazzstep show if there wasn't a couple of dubplates in there as well: a very jazzy something forthcoming on Make or Break from Deeptropix, and an unreleased collab track from Sekl @sekldnb and Rough Territory @Rough-Territory

Even during the peak era of the jungle, this music was considered quite a niche sound, but Fabio was a pioneer with a true passion and love for the music. Big respects to Fabio for doing his own thing and giving the music a platform for all to appreciate.

The Legendary Jazzstep Mix - An Ode To Fabio Kiss FM Show Mixed by Sekl

Part 35 of my Intelligent Drum and Bass mix series mixed by myself on Saturday 1st July 2023.

This mix features the best of the upfront current and forthcoming Deep, Atmospheric, Spacey breaks driven Drum and Bass and Jungle.

Kicking off with an absolute amen smasher from Probe One forthcoming on Okbron with those ominous vibes before drifting into those next level vibes once again with Interconnected from Aural Imbalance on  Spatial,   Every EP from this guy and ASC is really next level and this track and other tracks in the mix from the forthcoming EP's are no exception.

Janaret returns once again sounding once again like a modern day Artemis with the incredible Spacetime which is pure epic journey business from start to finish.

A few Sub Motion tracks also feature in this set which is a recent discovery of mine from the glorious Omni Music who have been in the game for years in the recent Atmospheric D&B Revival and are still going strong,    His Aurora's Motion EP is absolutely superb with all tracks providing pure emotive vibes throughout.

The prolific producer Mineral also features in the mix with his superb track Let The Vibe on Omni Music and We Look Book on Codename:RCRDS.   Along with Mineral - Nothing, Flipper and Moakz tracks are also included from the superb Songs For A Drifting Rose EP.    I look forward to hearing more from that new label in particular in the future.

Last but not least DJ Trax features with his superb track Layers from the Leke Aerosoul EP and Nine Windows (DJ Trace & Kid Drama's Atmospheric D&B project) collab with Skream - Miss U wraps things up.

Another outstanding set from back in the day, a rare Progression Sessions live set from Nuernberg, Germany, ~2002. I was sent this by one of the listeners to my YT channel - massive respect to Julia for reaching out to me. I'd not heard this set before and we're not sure which year it's from, I'm guessing ~2002 (this may be the limited edition 2004 PS live set but I can't find any info on that release, plus I had to do a bit of editing to cut out some noise, distortion, etc. so this is unlikely to have been an official release  - if anyone knows please leave a comment).
