ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਗਾਇ ਲੈ ਜੋ ਸੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੋ ॥
har jas re manaa gai lai jo sa(n)gee hai tero ||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ
Sing the Lord's Praises, O mind; He is your only true companion.

ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬੀਤਿਓ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਿਓ ਮਾਨ ਲੈ ਮੇਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aausar beetio jaat hai kahio maan lai mero ||1|| rahaau ||
ਮੇਰਾ ਬਚਨ ਮੰਨ ਲੈ । ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Your time is passing away; listen carefully to what I say. ||1||Pause||

ਸੰਪਤਿ ਰਥ ਧਨ ਰਾਜ ਸਿਉ ਅਤਿ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥
sa(n)pat rath dhan raaj siau at neh lagaio ||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਰਥ, ਮਾਲ, ਰਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਬੜਾ ਮੋਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ 
You are so in love with property, chariots, wealth and power.

ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਜਬ ਗਲਿ ਪਰੀ ਸਭ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
kaal faas jab gal paree sabh bhio paraio ||1||
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
When the noose of death tightens around your neck, they will all belong to others. ||1||

ਜਾਨਿ ਬੂਝ ਕੈ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਤੈ ਕਾਜੁ ਬਿਗਾਰਿਓ ॥
jaan boojh kai baavare tai kaaj bigaario ||
ਹੇ ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ! ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ 
Know this well, O madman - you have ruined your affairs.

ਪਾਪ ਕਰਤ ਸੁਕਚਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਨਹ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥
paap karat sukachio nahee neh garab nivaario ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ (ਕਦੇ) ਸੰਗਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਇਸ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੨।
You did not restrain yourself from committing sins, and you did not eradicate your ego. ||2||

ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਸੋ ਸੁਨੁ ਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
jeh bidh gur aupadhesiaa so sun re bhaiee ||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹ
So listen to the Teachings imparted by the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਗਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥
naanak kahat pukaar kai gahu prabh saranaiee ||3||3||
ਉਹ (ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਸੁਣ ਲੈ (ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ (ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ) ।੩।੩।
Nanak proclaims: hold tight to the Protection and the Sanctuary of God. ||3||3||
