An ultra-rare slice of old school soul at its finest, "You Got Me Hypnotized" b/w "She's A Play Girl" is a 1984 single by the seven member group Ci Ci, who were led by Clifton Dyson, the younger brother of famed soul singer and actor, Ronnie Dyson, and featured vocalist Rose Bullock. The "A" side, "(You Got Me) Hypnotized" is a classic soul ballad arranged by Al Johnson who co-founded the soul group, The Unifics and produced by the great Charles "Skip" Pitts, the guitarist responsible for the legendary wah-wah guitar lick that opens The Theme from Shaft by Issac Hayes. "(You Got Me) Hypnotized" was no doubt inspired by Linda Jones' 1967 hit "Hypnotized," a completely different song but similar vibe - a definite tip-of-the-hat. The flip side, "She's A Play Girl" starts out defined by the groovy bass line, and then slowly, hints of strings and horns enter to give it an early disco feel. Originally released on the legendary Creative Funk label in 1984, this rare classic has been newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.

The 1970s were a crazy time for record labels in America. The underbelly of the industry was a veritable wild west, with shady characters setting up imprints as tax shelters, pressing records in small quantities, inflating the costs spent on them, and then reporting huge losses on tax returns. Often releasing albums by unknown artists and demo tapes that had been laying around, these labels never cleared rights to release any of the music and the artists were not informed or compensated. Some of the band names and song titles were even changed and some artists wouldn’t discover that their music had been released until many years later. These practices went on into the early 1980s until the IRS caught wind of the scheme and the party was over. These often interesting yet mysterious releases became known as “Tax Scam” albums. One of the better oddities to emerge from that period was an album by what appears to be a South Florida based rock band named River Saint, whose lone album entitled "Valley People Sing" appeared in 1977 on the short-lived Van Dyke Records label. Recorded and mixed at Studio Center Sound Recordings in North Miami, "Valley People Sing" is a well-produced, written and performed album by a very competent band with a decidedly folk-rock style, with great harmonies provided by the unidentified Valley People Singers, and is well worth a listen. This does not sound like some fledgling band that just wandered into the studio one day – this is a well-conceived album featuring finely crafted songs and dynamic playing from the musicians involved. In other words, this album likely would have gained more traction if it had been properly released and marketed. The band members are listed as Jim Keegan (electric bass, vocals), Steve McNamara (guitar, vocals), Art Schmidt (guitar), Gary Vandy (guitar), Pat Powers (harmonica); Steve Brettholtz (drums), Bruce Shepard (saxophone) and the Valley People Singers (harmony vocals). The album's listed producer, Gary Vandy, was a locally known producer and engineer with many albums that bear his credit in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Tax scam or not, this is a fine album that will stand up to repeated listening and certainly deserves to be heard by a wider audience.

Ranj Kaler is a UK-based producer and DJ known for his dynamic and energetic sound. With releases on Manual Music, Pro B Tech. Late Night Music, Capital Heaven, and of course DIssident, Kaler has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of progressive house. After a run of successful breaks releases, his remix of "Sip Your Poison" returns to his house roots and adds a new level of intensity and drive to the original mix. Panayiotis Tassis is a Greek producer and DJ with a passion for lush soundscapes and emotive melodies. Over the past couple of years, the undisputed Queen of 1990s Eurodance, vocalist extraordinaire Jenny B, has been busy in the studio re-recording many of the hits that featured her lead vocals. On many of these tracks, Jenny B went largely uncredited until listeners started noticing that it was her voice and not the lip-synching models that were often featured in videos and live performances. Two of the biggest hits from the era were "Save Me" and "Rhythm Of The Night." "Save Me," was originally released by the German pop duo Say When! in 1987. The song, written by Pete Glenister and Mike Gaffey, served as the basis for Corona's massive world-wide hit "The Rhythm of the Night," also written by Glenister and Gaffey, featuring Jenny B's uncredited lead vocal. One of the greatest doo-wop groups of all time, The Five Satins were formed in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1955. Led by lead singer and songwriter Fred Parris, The Five Satins are best known best known for the doo wop classic "In The Still Of The Night," a song Parris had written in the basement of a local church in New Haven. The single was released on Standord Records in the spring of 1956. By the end of the year, it had been leased to Ember and became a huge hit, peaking at number three on the R&B charts and number 25 on the pop charts. Featured here is one of their rarest singles, "The Time" b/w "Baby Face, " originally recorded in the late 1950s for the Standord label. It contains the unreleased version of the "The Time" on the A-side which they later re-recorded - adding strings and changing the tempo a bit, and that version was released in 1960 on Ember Records. This ultra-rare single is presented here, newly remastered for this exclusive release and finally made available in the digital domain.

Old school gospel blues at its rawest is represented here with this super rare single from Miami's The Rhythmical Wright Singers, one of the premier gospel groups of the south Florida spiritual music scene of the 1960s. The Rhythmical Wright Singers represented a bluesier type of gospel singing, led by funky electric guitar punctuating the lyrics. Featured here is one of their rare singles, "Watching Over Me" b/w "Can't Forget What You Done For Me," originally released in 1969 on the obscure Spiril label, newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.

A well-known and highly respected vocalist on the Washington, DC scene, Ron Queen was considered something of a "secret weapon,” often recruited by established bands who were searching for that special voice to make their live shows pop. His first exposure to a large audience came at the age of nine when his mother thrust him on stage with the one and only James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. From then on, Ron knew he was destined to be a performer. By the time Queen was a teenager he was singing in about 15 different bands in the DC area. The first well known act he sang with was the popular Motown group known as the Dynamic Superiors, who scored a huge hit with the romantic sweet soul ballad "Shoe Shoe Shine." It was then that Ron's reputation as a "singer's singer" began to grow beyond the confines of the local scene. After performing for a few years on the Dynamic Superiors live shows, Queen was approached by Major Harris, who recruited him to sing in his band and he toured with Harris for nearly three years, further establishing his reputation. Because of his exceptional talent, he rarely found himself with any down time. In the last year, Ron has been working in the studio with legendary Philly soul producer Butch Ingram and recently released the single “Hurry Up This Way Again,” which was met with great critical acclaim. For his latest, Ron is back in the studio with Butch, as he takes on The Delfonics 1968 hit, "La La (Means I Love You)," and puts his own indelible stamp on it. Backed by the first family of Philly soul - the immortal Ingram Brothers band - Ron takes full command of the tune and truly makes it his own. The song has long been a favorite of Ron's and he delivers it in spectacular fashion, with great style and conviction. After all these years, Ron Queen steps from the shadows and takes his rightful place in the spotlight, front and center, where he has always belonged.

Hailing from the small city of Chester, PA on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Kathleen Fontaine-Prattis (affectionately dubbed "Kat" by family and friends) exhibited extraordinary talent as a singer at an early age. As a teenager, Kat began performing and recording with a host of local artists. It was not long before she was sought out by countless musicians, singers and producers that revolved around Philadelphia at the time. As the Sound Of Philadelphia and the recording empire created by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff grew, so did the experience and reputation of Fontaine. By then, she earned her place on a very short list of the area's top voices of the city. Kat quickly moved up the ranks of the city's booming music scene. She performed or recorded lead and background vocals for the likes of Norman Harris, Bunny Sigler, Billy Paul, The Trammps, and The Temptations' Ron Tyson to name just a few. Kat's career would eventually lead her to share the stage with internationally renowned artists ranging from KC & The Sunshine Band, Sister Sledge, and Gloria Gaynor - to late greats like Ray Charles and B.B. King. In the past few years Kat has been working with the legendary producer Butch Ingram abetted by the awesome talents of the mighty Society Hill Orchestra. She released her first ever solo album to rave reviews and has been busy entertaining adoring audiences ever since. For her latest single, Fontaine once again teams with Ingram and his Society Hill crew for an updated rendition of Phyliss Hyman's 1977 funky disco hit, "No One Can Love You More Than I Do." Kat sings the tune with an emotional depth that rivals the original, almost as if the time-honored hit was written for Fontaine herself.
