Prana was recorded and improvised live in an underground former silo in the deep southern Utah desert over the winter solstice. The temperature outside was at about 10 degrees below zero, inside a giant wood stove burned away, and all around were about twenty or so sonic journeyers forming a meditative circle on the slate floor. 

The album contains vocals - but no English - rather the vocalizations you hear are more channeled sounds intended keep our language centers quiet and our hearts open. 

5 extended tracks - running time 48 minutes. 
This is a gapless playback continuous listening experience.

glassy dream turns algae-black,
daddy fin brings looking-back,  
mercury pool in cracked sack,

mama lassos goat of the land,
beard-on-legs with devil’s hand,

devil-hand goat’s horns cross-wise,
mama trades for rockin’-surprise,
spine of wood with glass-button eyes,

electric eel moan,

rockin’-surprise tips on its side  
mama gets you a dog to ride  
dust-bin barker with nowhere-hide  
doot-doot, ack-bla-doot  
buzz from the neon sign  
just that doot-doot, ack-bla-doot  

barker-dog’s got no bark in its throat,  
mama buys you a cart and a goat,  
no... a horse... or a fish with a coat,
thing on the road that don’t quite float,
doot-doot, ack-bla-doot,
gargling the moon-rock, 
just that doot-doot, ack-bla-doot.  

thing-on-the-road falls apart,
you’re the sweetest razor-heart, 
prettiest teeth in the shoal-depart, 
doot-doot, ack-bla-doot, 
is that... is that all?  
yeah... ack-bla-doot.

Essie Jain is an English singer and songwriter, who has been performing and recording music for over two decades. Her songs have traveled far and wide out into the world and gently weaved themselves into the fabric of people’s lives, daily healing practices and stories. 

Essie often works alongside her husband, guitarist and long term collaborator Patrick Glynn, for both recordings and live performances. They live in Los Angeles with their daughter Opal.

Essie and Patrick are currently writing and recording an album of folk songs together, due for release in early 2025
