The beginning of this song is the Gayatri Mantra - a sanskrit chant that basically means "you are the source, please illuminate my heart".  It's a prayer for enlightenment and is chanted by millions of people daily, usually I think at sunrise and sunset.
One evening, at a period in my life when I was burnt out and desperate, I was in that place when I was too tired to sleep and too tired to do anything else.  I decided that playing guitar would make me feel better.  I chanted the gayatri mantra for about 20 mins and then a thought occurred to me - if the source could illuminate my mind in plain english that I could understand what would it say?
The english words in the song are the answer that I received.
I'm so glad this song resonates for so many people, it just shows me our hearts are all the same...

You Are Safe

This track was originally written about my father who was very sick and he's an athiest.  I couldn't tell him in person that I thought there were angels around him so I wrote a song about it instead.  
It was also written to remind myself that we can't get help if we don't ask for it! A reminder for me to speak to my own angels and ask for their assistance..

Essie Jain is an English singer and songwriter, who has been performing and recording music for over two decades. Her songs have traveled far and wide out into the world and gently weaved themselves into the fabric of people’s lives, daily healing practices and stories. 

Essie often works alongside her husband, guitarist and long term collaborator Patrick Glynn, for both recordings and live performances. They live in Los Angeles with their daughter Opal.

Essie and Patrick are currently writing and recording an album of folk songs together, due for release in early 2025
