Hey, 

For this track i wanted to create an atmospheric / ambient track, like a "voyage / destination" to a new galaxy and finally reach this one.
it's sound like a mix of synthwave and video-games like Astroneer or stuff like that.

It's a little track but i think i like it, the repetitive arppegios and the construction around is cool, so here it is.

This special re-recording was captured in 'The Compound', his studio in his hometown of Fremantle Western Australia in February 2012. Having performed the track to a worldwide audience over the past 12 years, 'Ocean' is today available FREE as an MP3, grab your copy here.

"OCEAN is a very interesting aspect of my life. It is part of my DNA. It conveys all things I can't put into words.
Life, loss, love, spirit. As I evolve so too does 'Ocean'. The song was first recorded as part of my first album/cassette,
"Searching For Heritage", which I sold when I busked, then for my first self-titled studio album 12 years ago -- "John Butler (1998)".
The song has been watched online incredibly over 25 million times in various formats, nearly always live, be it from MusicMax Sessions or from one of the many festivals I have had the pleasure to play. I'd like to thank you for your continued support over all these years; it means so much to me. I would like to thank you by offering this first studio recording of 'Ocean' in over a decade as a free download.
I recorded it in my favourite studio, The Compound here in Fremantle Western Australia, a studio you helped me build.
This marks just another fleeting moment in a career that is very much ongoing.

Ocean (2012)

This musical experience somehow naturally occurred during my travels all over the planet in 2012 while feeling the call to "stretch" and extent already existing songs, improvising with the intensity of sound as well as "letting the strings tell stories...“ 

During enormous amounts of sessions, which range from 1 hour to 5 hours I've seen and felt an incredible magic … it didn't matter where this experience took place. It has always been like a miracle. 

A transformation of thought into eternal smiling silence - at meditation festivals, yoga retreats, street festivals, concerts, mental institutes, elderly houses, small house gatherings and huge parties. 

I’m doing my best to stay with "this energy" no matter what surroundings are there, holding the space for those around to achieve a "flying experience" - at times it is very challenging yet always beneficial. 

I still have no idea what I do during these sessions, as it seems indeed, just holding a guitar, as it becomes much more than music - and its not about the music - and surely its not about me - but all that is involved in the process - either visible or invisible. 
Within this recording I tried to keep the original energy. 
Though surely it is never the same as it could be experienced Live!

While on a "Breath of Sound' US tour, 3 concerts were shared in Oregon with a dear friend, Peia "Bird" Luzzi. This is just a snippet from one of the performances we have done, with no rehearsals, or a preparation. Trust is an essential essence of life, as on stage as off stage.
