Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @drumcell for its seventy-fifth episode of Amplify Series.

Drumcell was born as Moe Espinosa in Los Angeles’ San Gabriel Valley. Far away from the glamour and glitter of Hollywood, he cut his teeth growing up in a vibrant, culturally diverse neighborhood that still breeds inspiration for his work. San Gabriel Valley is also where he co-founded Droid Behavior in the early 2000s which lead to the infamous Interface warehouse series and lauded techno label Droid Recordings.

A classically trained musician in his youth, Moe came to circulate around the Noise, Punk and Industrial scene, playing guitar and singing in various bands until he discovered the early ‘90s L.A. rave scene. That was when he got in touch with some of the heroic synthesizers of techno’s early years. His enthusiasm for those synthetic sounds lead to a career as a Product Specialist at Native Instruments and to independent musician and engineer work across Los Angeles. Some of his studio contributions include work for Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails, Maynard James Keenan of Tool, Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb, Gary Numan, George Clinton, Kool Keith, Qbert, and Cut Chemist.

By then, Moe was chuffed to pursue his own productions. When he handed out his first self-produced, self- pressed vinyls at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001, he heard them being played from the festival stages the very next day. Since then, he has released original productions or remixed tracks on DROID, CLR, Electric Deluxe, Dystopian, Torque, Silent Steps, Blank Code, Ibadan, Detroit Underground, and much more. This style has caught the attention of many of the world’s top techno jocks, with strong track support from the likes of Luke Slater, Speedy J, and Chris Leibing. This style has also reached numerous prestigious international clubs and festivals. From Berlin's techno mecca Berghain to the main stage of The Movement in Detroit to North American nightclubs like Output and Stereo to festivals across Europe, Latin America, Japan and Australia - Drumcell’s sound can be heard around the world.

In 2016, Drumcell debuted his ambient project HYPOXIA on his experimental label BL_K NOISE. Inspired by science fiction soundtracks and the sounds of artists like John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, Goblin and Vangelis, the Hypoxia release steps away from the dance floor and into a broader space of contemplative drama and rich texture. Producing infinite movement with his Buchla and Eurorack systems, Hypoxia all hardware performance has been heard at highly curated atmospheres from Berghain in Berlin to Brooklyn’s Greyscale Series at Output to pop-up concerts on the LA River.

Drumcell explores and discovers the analogue world as much as the digital world of music production, to finally combine them into his very own raw, suspenseful and hypnotic style. Influenced by a myriad of music as well as science fiction and machines, he has developed an addiction to analog synthesis which has led to ceaseless experiments in his studio in search of new, mind-expanding sounds. As one of the most esoteric techno artists in North America, his sound disregards genre limitations and is everything but conventional techno.

Moving freely in the flux of unpredictable creativity and constant wide spreading interests, Elisa Bee has been mixing for over 15 years, beginning in her native Sardinia before moving to Milan. First picking up the decks back in 2007, it wasn't until 2012 that
she decided to delve into the world of music production.
Charmed by her work, UK-based DJ Haus signed her ‘Mind Game EP’ to influential imprint Unknown To The Unknown. Since then, she has released music under Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains, Posthuman’s Balkan Vinyl, Ben Sims' both Symbolism and Hardgroove imprints, Truncate's label and UTTU again – and she remixed artists like Ewan McVicar and WTCHCRFT.
Her own productions have been much welcomed by international audiences and artists alike, gaining considerable airplay both on the dancefloor and on the radio (BBC Radio1, NTS, Rinse FM, Kiosk Radio). In 2023 Elisa debuted on Boiler Room and her RA Podcast for Resident Advisor attested her as one of Italy’s finest selectors and producers: “[...] exploring and then refining a style of techno that has that rare, hard-to-put- your-finger-on quality: a soulful reverence, paying homage to the old days and the originators without just copying them”.
In October 2023 Elisa released a new EP on Ben Sims’ Hardgroove imprint, right after her amazing Berghain debut.
Record collector of every genre, from jazz to reggae through hip-hop, rock and obviously house and techno, Elisa is fascinated by the sounds of the past as she is by the experimental and quirky waves shaping the future music. It’s very difficult then to find a label perfectly matching her description, but for sure she’ll keep on rocking dance floors around the world, releasing new records and generally spreading good vibes wherever she is.

Hey peeps,

here's my 3-hour closing set at ORPHIC. This was a really special one for me as I've been going to the Orphic parties quite a bit. From the first time visiting I wanted to play here. The crowd and vibe at these parties is zero to none, and the organisation is a lovely group of people with a very community-based mindset. 

I wanted to do something special, and I think you can hear that in this set. It's a very hypnotic and heavy set, ranging from very emotive to heavy dark tracks, with a lot of layering going on. There's a few small moments that are slightly messy as I was constantly playing with multiple decks at once, but that makes it human ;). The recording cut out at 2:50:00, so I edited the last few tracks in to ensure a safe landing after 3 hours. 

Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did playing this.

Icon. Living legend. Both definitions that apply to Marco Bailey, a self-taught dj and  producer whose career started to develop in the late 80s after attending a local club in his native Belgium, and being completely seduced by the rhythmic power of dance music. 
That was when all changed. A first approach that triggered the decision to be behind decks instead of the dancefloor. And since then, he has committed his life to music. 
Three decades later, he’s known as an artist constantly pushing techno to its next level, this by producing his own tracks, managing his first own label MB Elektronics ( established in 2001 ), and of course, by travelling all around the world to make people dance and go crazy with his flawless technique and impeccable selection. 
During his career, he has released acclaimed singles, Eps and albums on labels like Primate, Drumcode, Bedrock, Intec, Arts etc, on each one of them demonstrating a forward thinking approach, and the desire to not just ignore, but break -or crush- the mold of what can be considered a trend in a certain moment. On each producion he stays 100% true to his instinct and beliefs, and that is an unbreakable pact with his heart.
Nowadays, as an innovator and an artist completely and permanently devoted to his craft, he’s at the helm of MATERIA, a concept that was born on 2015 as a successful event dedicated to techno in its purest form.

in the 105th episode of Techno Cartel Podcast we are very pleased to host Jamie Bissmire.

From one of the UK’s leading DJs, producers and exponents of techno music Jamie Bissmire has pretty much done it all and got the T-shirt. As one third of Bandulu he has inspired a plethora of international artistes to take up the production baton and live audiences to lose their collective marbles on the dancefloor. As one half of the Space DJz alongside Potential Recordingz Ben Long he has cut, scratched, fazed and faded his way across the world’s premier nightspots and with his Foundation and Ground labels has continued to prove himself at the cutting edge of loose-limbed techno minimalism. There are plenty who claim to have achieved half the things Bissmire has since he first unleashed Bandulu and The Thunderground in 1991 with John O’Connell and Lucien Thompson. Yet Bissmire just gets on with it. Neither seeking acclaim nor award in his constant quest to push himself both as a producer and DJ. Whilst all too often we are quick to hail those from distant shores as ‘innovators’ and afford them legendary status, we similarly often overlook the very same from under our noses.

Since the later end of the 1990’s Bissmire has mainly focused on his Ground label and DJing career alongside deck partner, Ben Long. As Space DJz, the pair would often warm up for Bandulu and the pair pioneered the DJ duo assault of playing on four decks and two mixers – scratching and cutting up untold amounts of vinyl across the planet. With the pairs every growing DJ reputation their recording partnership soon witnessed 12” releases on Potential, Infonet, Novamute, Ongaku, Reload, Tortured and an album, ‘On Patrol’ for Soma in 1999. The Space DJz remain ‘on patrol’ to this day.

Towards the middle of the 1990’s Bissmire began to experiment with new sounds and ideas that were to finally emerge on his own conceptual imprint, Ground. “Off kilter mad sequences on strange looped timings” is how Jamie Bissmire describes the sound of his imprint. With artwork and run out groove scripture based on ancient English heritage and Anglo-Saxon ritualism, Bissmire hints at a deeper concept to the backbone of his label that runs along the ley lines of his country’s ancestry.”The label is based on the geometrical patterns of universal growth and form.”

In 2004 Jamie Bissmire launched his label 50Hz which featured new and established artists. Jamie himself spearheaded the vinyl onslaught with a series of new style Bissmire Jacking Techno tracks, and classic tracks remixed and re-shaped for the nu style. On vinyl, on the decks or on patrol. Whatever it takes, Jamie Bissmire’s on a musical mission and we’re just trying to keep up. 

2011 Jamie is restarting Ground Recordings for the new generation...
