PRIMICIA: NOZZ - Lost Memories I [Rotten City Records]

So here we are with Riotvan's second installment of the "Familiar Faces", showcasing what's happening with the label these days (a lot), making label-residents shake hands and welcome affiliated folks to the syndicate. Although this is a 'various artists'-format, the here gathered stylistic approaches and track-turned mindsets make a strikingly coherent body of work. Just another evidence of how Riotvan has evolved into a renowned think tank of likeminded artists and indicator of state of the art sonic bliss. 

Kicking off we find Perel immersing in yet another synth-driven stream, seeking continuation to her latest, widely praised full length-cycle, but this time bypassing Venus or rather "Super Venus" while floating off to other otherworldly dimensions.

Next in line are Black Spuma, i.e. Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella, demonstrating via "Drumbaeck" what a match in Neo-Disco-heaven they are. A highly energetic beat, laying the grounding for a cheerful synth-hook and harmonies you won't get out of your head anytime soon.

Same goes for "Tropical Redux", the follow up by none other than Panthera Krause. A particularly elated affair, carried out by a funked up bassline and a catchy string-theme, sticking its neck out in Disco-realms, while maintaining a primetime-adjusted groove.

At this point it's about time for a premiere. Say hi to New Hook, an all-female power-force with their debut release. "FXART" comes as a well-versed exercise in reviving frigid 80ies leanings with a contemporary urgency and attitude. And that's just a glimpse on what's to come from Linda, Ilka and Juliane.

Chinaski, definitely no stranger to the Riotvan family, is taking on the 80ies vibe and hands in "Zeichen der Zeit", an unhasting ride through various galaxies, combining nostalgic synth-aesthetics with spaced out futurism.

Closing things off, it's label-mainstay Jennifer Touch cutting deep with "Bleed", an almost existentially emotive composition, exploring spiritual abysses lyrically, re-modelling emotional chaos within the overtones of the arrangement and even trimming things down to physical functionality within the track's progression.

Durand is an emerging artist that already have something more than « emerging » After released an EP and dropped some remixes for Nein Records he is now landing in the Esthetique family.
Living down in the south of Spain in the marvelous area of Andalusia. Durand was attracted very early by Dark Disco, Nu Disco, Synthwave, Techno sounds and found a great atmosphere in the SlowMotion scene.

After synthetised all of that kinds of musics and more he gets into djing in some of the best venues of Spain along great renowed djs. So the normal path after djiing is began to produce his own tracks. « Hot White Bubbles EP » is a great release for you to see what he can do, that all melting pot of sounds. Sweaty !!!!

For the remixes we have 2 greats guests : the awesome Italo Brutalo with a bouncy remix fo « Hot White Bubbles » And Argentinian producer Balam that bring « Fripoli » into a ethnic techno trance way.

Modernphase comeback (Gameboyz/Comolasgrecas/Melomana Records) to Shara Music, with this Remixed pack, of his great mini Ep, called “Píntate los labios que nos vamos de after”. For this Ep he choose artists who could give a new fresh version of their acclaimed work, supported by Andrew Weatherall.
The first remix is signed by a regular on the label, the Mexican Tkuz. With his acid sound so characteristic and effective, which it has taken him to suitcases of artists like The Hacker. This great producer marked an indispensable remix, with a taste, clearly psychedelic, perfect for the dance floors. He is accompanied by other compatriots and one of the favorites of the label, Zombies in Miami bring under the arm, a industrial cut, with a well marked breaks and a 90s stuff, trippy and timeless. For “Tira pal baño” the chosen artist has been the french Mila Dietrich, creating a electro track where a fat baseline, advances along the track while the darkness and excellent production reminds us of that sound that at the beginning of the century marked a time.
The following artists of the fourth remix, are the spanish Two Mamarrachos, performing an impeccable work with the vocals, where the break drums and industrial flavour, are again the main key of the remix. The fifth remix is run by a new guys on the block, called Moowen. They sign a remix without complexes, where the uncompromising groove of a 808 joins forces to a powerful Moog bassline, in a progressive track of “A que hora cierra”. Finally the artists in charge to close the remix Ep are Ali X & Ximena, these guys make a beat directly to the dance floor, elegant and amazing produced.

Following their debut release of revulx’s self-titled EP, Montreal based label @cosmictonesrecords is set for its second release later this month. Montreal Pleiades is an EP long in the making, featuring tracks from six separate producers from across Canada’s underground scene. Ura-Dust, @mattsalaciak, @priori-ties, @duste1, @Bunzinelli, and @richardwenger all feature on this collection of spacey, dubbed out tracks. While each track brings its own flavor to the table, each selection features the peculiar textures and sounds which define the Cosmic Tone aesthetic. 

Having designed the album artwork himself, Bunzinelli’s B2 track “Hyperloop” is easily one of the standouts. Jumping right into the almost jungle-acid bassline alongside an IDM breakbeat, the track thrusts itself forward with dreamy pads and an additional low end groove to accent the rhythm section. Each element occupies its own particular space, working with each other to keep a clean and clear mix. With everything else drenched in reverb and hollowed out, the drums cut through and punch above the rest. Minimal synth melodies delay and drift into the background as the beat continues to twist and shift with fills and breaks. It’s a heady workout for warming up the floor at the start of a long night.

It had been raining incessantly for months now, the streets seemed desolate as if the locals had abandoned them, opting instead for the safety of their own homes. The sky was eternally overcast and gloomy, but in downtown the bright neon signs of the shops lit up the neighbourhood in fluorescent pinks, blues and greens. Here, the mood was different, the people were hopeful. In swathes, the inhabitants walked the vibrantly illuminated streets, filling them with laughter and enthusiastic chitchat. There was no point mourning, life was too short for that. 

Slow Motion's sister label Wrong Era welcome Pardon Moi to the family AKA Berlin-based duo James Brook and Thomas Freudenthal. The pair produce three original tracks of new wave aimed directly at the dance floor - our favourite is label manager Franz Scala's Italo twist on the title track.

To celebrate Duro’s fourth anniversary, the popular Mexican label serves up a superb various artist EP, with three more volumes to follow.
In the four years since Duro launched, the label has been at the forefront of a refreshing new sound that mixes up house, techno, indie and disco. It has won plaudits from respected DJs such as Andrew Weatherall, Marvin & Guy, Perel and Jennifer Cardini, who clearly admire the dance floor weaponry the label deals in, and this new project continues that theme.
Fabio Me Llaman Soltero is a talent from the rich Guatemala scene who has made a mark on Disque Discos and Tráfico Music. Here he cooks up some brain frying acid, stark drum work and rigid grooves that demand you dance while a popping bassline adds a retro electro feel. @CaliBurton is an experienced musician from Argentina, releases his solo material through the Mexican label @vnnmx . "Vortice" is a mix of electronic music and the influences of the alternative projects (Chalalora, Serebrios and Ruda) of Cali, in which you can listen to music made for the dance floor with overtones of Rock, Funk and of course his voice so particular.

The original tracks are accompanied for remixes made by Tivi, Umvral and Guillermo Castillo, which do the same by capturing their style on each track.
