Digital Suicide

@autarkic recorded a wonky DJ mix for us, in guise of an introduction to the Turbo Recordings family. 

He wrote a little statement regarding his music and forthcoming EP:

"My music is often described as "New Wave", "Cold Wave", "Dark Wave" and so on… The truth is that i am a bad swimmer, so being on a wave can be a horrifying  experience.

I understand it is easier for people to categorise and i respect that, though i don't see myself surfing on any wave but my own little wave where i can decide to which direction I'm going to.

'Rotation! Rotation!' is another phase of mine. I see it as a more gentle side of me and less of a celebration of stiffness. Songs like 'I know', 'I am the clone?' are good examples for that.

I want to bring the real me to every song or production i make, and that is the only question i ask myself before releasing new music to the world.

I hope most of the people will enjoy listening to the record like i enjoyed making it."

FLXXX - Kids Romance

After his 2015 stomper EP on Correspondant, Max Jones (@mrjonesmrjones) makes his debut on Mexican imprint @DuroLabel with 2 originals that are accompanied with remixes. 

'Perisur' is a sinister yet salacious, heavy-breathbing Detroit workout, that sees an unlikely cocktail of elements come together and writhe ecstatically in it's dark, deviant energy. A quiet and confident menace drives the whole track, tightening it's grip on the listener with every beat, so that by the closing bars, you've somehow managed to volunteer full surrender to the tracks unsettling and uncertain fate.

Jepe (@jepejustjohn) takes on remix duties and creates an unfussy and rapidly addictive, swing-loaded groove, that stoically stalks the stave, and struts it's sure-footed strut. That is, until the devastating analogue hum of dark Detroit waves appear on the horizon, quickly growing into looming towers of seductive, enveloping noise.

Innocence, consciousness, warnings… Colossio crash-lands onto Duro with his first full EP for the label. It’s about time; a fellow Mexican alchemist and kindred spirit, Colossio’s dark disco melting pot and strong political energy has bubbled to the same beat as label imprint since the very beginning. Previously spotted on the label remixing Theus Mago and Local Suicide in 2019, he’s now back with three formidable slabs of tightly-sprung timelessness and a remix from Dominik Marz.

Each cut more foreboding than the last, ‘Inocência’ lives up to its name as the most playful cut of the collection. A gently cascading arpeggio takes the lead as classic Yello-style pitched vocals add fun and human warmth to the mix. Dark but not devilishly so, it lures you into Colossio’s world, setting you up for the more up-tempo, late night synth-heavy twist from Dominik Marz.

Up next comes ‘Consciência’, an eight-minute lesson in total tension that takes the theme to darker places. Not so much as a song, but more of a full saga; it’s a taut, sinewy creeper laced in suspense. A story waiting to unfold in the most unlikely ways, it’s followed by the final warning shots of ‘Advertência’. Literally translating to warning, it takes things in an even darker, tense direction. More industrial sounding in the drum department and more pitched vocal shots, it’s the consummate soundtrack to the bleak future we were warned about in the 80s… And living right now.
