The first podcast of 2022 couldn’t start with more positive vibes. The West Coast iconic hot groove echoes in this mix made by the Irish-Iranian San Francisco-based Dj Sinèad (Orchid AM). A fresh touch and a good dose of adrenaline which helps us to forget bad times and takes us on a sunny beach so the only thing left for us to do is to turn up the volume and dance.

Since the launch of their much-loved party brand in 2002, Giles Smith and James Priestley – Secretsundaze’s founders and residents – have dedicated their work and output to ecstatic club experiences. 

A record label followed suit, as did their booking agency, long-running NTS radio show and a stack more DJ and production projects undertaken by the pair. Plus, of course, plenty more parties. 2022 marks 20 years of Secretsundaze, with the duo currently working on some exciting anniversary celebrations – but we’ll leave them to reveal those in due course. 

Here, the pair usher in the new year with their first new mix in 18 months. “The mix is direct and club-focused,” they tell Crack Magazine. “All-vinyl, with our typical Detroit and NYC stylings before moving into some more pushy atmospheric, European bizzness.”

It goes without saying that Toby Tobias has been a long standing figure in the London scene. You may recognise him for his seminal house cuts on labels like Rekids , ESP Institute, Delusions of Grandeur, International Feel, Odori and Quintessentials to name a few. You can also catch him spinning records around London, most noticeably House Of St. Barnabas in Soho where we host a party with him monthly. For his Phonica mix Toby brings us on a masterclass through various styles of deep house, breaks, euphoric breakdowns, melodic percussions and acid basslines. Almost like a segment from a night out this is a little taste of one of his long all night sets in a dark London club.

Estimulo started his career on Berlin's pirate radio scene in the late 1980s, and is nowadays one of the most respected underground house DJs in Europe.

With a special focus on Deep, Bleep, Chicago & Italian house sounds, he has released many celebrated mixtapes and podcasts over the years, recently turning heads with his contribution to @melbourne-deepcast & backing it up with his first trip to Australia in early 2023.

Known as a "DJ's DJ" across many realms of classic dance music, I owe my love of Italian House, Bleeps & Breaks, and several other subgenres to this man, and it was an honour to host him for 2 separate events in Brisbane.

The first was at our secret location (pictured), which sadly was not recorded. Then we made last-minute plans for a Thursday night party at this rad West End venue called It's Still A Secret.

Canadians Pender Street Steppers appeared as if from nowhere in 2014
 and quickly became one of the most visible acts in house music. Their loved-up sound was frayed and roughhewn, sprinkled with lovestruck vibes and built on ramshackle drums that sounded immediately aged yet thoroughly new and fresh at the same time. Their penchant for new age romance and earthy aesthetics are mirrored in the buy-on-sight Mood Hut label they run with a larger collective, and their DJ sets are just as relaxed and big hearted, which immediately stood out at Dekmantel Festival and Dekmantel Selectors over the last couple of years.

Across an hour, the famously reticent pair—they’ve done no interviews—effortlessly segue through afro grooves, boogie laced disco and lo-fi house. It’s a timeless mix of sounds that could work a small back yard gathering as much a bigger club setting, such is its irresistibly colourful and emotive sense of charm. That being said, it's probably no surprise that having these two fine and talented chaps on our podcast series is a big honour.
