Founded by the Berlin-based Chilean hermanos of the respected duo Random Atlas (SXDNS155/FREEDL024), ODD Pleasures finally delivers its electrifying second compilation. Entitled “Suburbia”, the VA encompasses many a spectrum of dark grooves spread throughout its eleven hand-picked cuts. Ducati Flux, JGR, A-Tweed (FREEDL222/FREEDL029), Aural Trace, Cosman, ROB-IIN, Oblako Maranta, Bojarchük, Monoblok (SXDNS204), iuan (FREEDL036), and Soulcat & Jan Esmaeili, artists hailing from different backgrounds and corners of the crazy world we live in, contributed with their respective and characteristic sonorities to the releases, resulting in a wealthy hotchpotch of soundscapes devoted to pleasing both the electro club-smasher lover and the immersive sonic traveller out there.

The high quality and plurality of the themes turned the mission of selecting only one to premiere into a tough one. A little deliberation was needed until we ultimately reached a verdict: Monoblok’s contribution, the chosen one, drew our attention due to its funky and playful conduct. The beautiful bassline topped with a mellow and dreamy pad plus the Kraftwerk-like synth layers left us without any trace of doubt we had picked one of the most significant tracks of the compilation and thus the right one.

This is the first single from the new Headman album. The track features vocals by Silver Jan and a remix by Zillas on Acid. It’s the first new material produced since the self-titled Robi Insinna mini album and SASM, the new band project with Douglas J McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb, released on Industria in 2018.

Robi Insinna has been releasing music since his debut in 2001. At the same time he started Relish Recordings, with the aim to re-create a vinyl label similar to the records he was buying at that time, obscure post–punk, new wave and disco records. Very inspired by the British Balearic scene and the Italian afro scene, he created Manhead as an opposite to Headman. The trademark Bass was always very present in Headman production.

This time Robi Insinna decided to work again under the Headman moniker. The single has a kind of NYC 80’s vibe, which is pretty much what the music was always about, strong retro raw edge funk machine driven sounds. The use of analog equipment, synthesizers, bass and loads of outboard gear is a trademark of Robi Insinna’s production. Saying that, the idea is not just to copy the past, but to take influences from it to create something new.
Zillas on Acid rework the track into a slow-driving techno chugger, taking it in a darker and more sinister direction.

No Surprises is a funky new wave track echoing the optimism of past decades.

Boyanza Residents Rafatel And Papa Jazz joined forces to bring us two sun-soaked, summer ready edits made late at night by this pair of music freaks. One is a mysterious release by salsa legend Willie Colón; and the other, a song by overall legend Julio Iglesias, with a sample taken out of one of the greatest mexican films ever done: Las Niñas Bien. 

The cover picture taken by Papa Jazz conmemorates the place where this two collaborators consolidated their friendship and all the late nights they shared music together.

Already amazing songs edited to appeal dancefloor necessities.

Curated by none other than future Lithuania’s President and Vice-President, Roe Deers (SXDNS138) and Titas Motuzas, Good Skills presents its brand-new VA release: “Sekta”, a five-track EP devoted to showcasing the finest of what the country has to offer when it comes to underground electronic music. Shurmin Nikita, Zakmina feat. EGOMAŠINA, Deserted Island, Shkema, and Bojarchük spared no efforts to deliver high-quality themes to the compilation by presenting their own characteristic sonorities that resulted in a rich tapestry of inventiveness and ingenuity – exactly what the label has envisioned since its foundation in 2019.

The track we were solicited to premiere comes from the uneasy mind of “weird producer and weird DJ” Shkema, whose most notable previous works can be found on NEIN Records, City Noises, and Good Skills itself.

For his contribution to the VA, he created “Vaikų Ligoninė” (meaning “Children's Hospital” in English); “Shkema at his best”, according to the PR text: Ghostly vocals, pitched drums, and an unpredictable flow tells another weird story from a parallel universe – his.
