I created this piece for Cities & Memories Autumn 2025 Compilation.

The bird sounds of the original recording have a particular cadence and repetition. This inspired me to create a piece that had something solid and continuous to accompany it. I created a drone composed of 4 sounds that intertwine with each other progressively in their envelopes. This piece contains a binaural base frequency of 3.2 Hz so it is encouraged to listen on earphones to get the optimum effect. The piece is also tuned to 432Hz.
I played an Erhu on top of it. I mixed it very wide for a very profound and immersive listening experience. I loved creating this ambiance feeling how it would be to be one of these birds living and flying through Asia.

Softening Distance is a continuation of POLAR STILL’s ambient language, moving toward lighter space and reduced weight.
The EP focuses on air, distance, and subtle motion through slow-evolving textures, restrained dynamics, and minimal harmonic movement.
Fully instrumental and environment-driven, the music emphasizes place and stillness rather than emotion or narrative, allowing the sound to dissolve naturally rather than resolve.
