Telecast - #021 - Telecasting to the cosmos!
As we sit at home, we find ourselves anew and see things in a new light. So did I. Inspired by numerous sets out there, I’ve been going into my own musical history to find forgotten gems of my youth (Mark Knopfler & Pete Philly & Perquisite), new artists I fell in love with (J.J. Cale & Kevin Morby), timeless classics (Nina Simone & George Harrison), and music with Dutch lyrics (Spinvis & Wim de Craene).

This special Telecast stems from a desire to listen to and work with different music. The music I normally listen to just isn’t cutting it at the moment and is propelling me to shake things up a little. My desire to listen to something that gives comfort and is emotionally uplifting to help me through times of distress is what brought this mix to light. 

This Telecast is filled with music that invokes memories from my past. From the time I set sail every weekend with my best friend from high school, the time when I was singing of the top of my lungs while driving around artists for a festival, the time when I felt pure happiness just walking around a train station listening to music on my way to meet friends, a time when I found out that the group of people I hung out with weren’t who I thought they were, a time when I rode back to Portugal and didn’t get further than Ghent, a time when I had no idea who I was and found solace in music, a time when I found big emotions within me through music with Dutch lyrics, a time when… well, you get the gist.

It’s been emotional, it’s been beautiful and although I could keep working on this Telecast and endlessly tweak it, it’s now time to release it and share this with you. I hope you’ll find comfort when listening and realise that even though these times are though, they also shine new light on you and offer you a chance to change things around for the better. And, hopefully, in doing so, when things do go back to normal again you’ll find yourself stronger than ever.

This is PM Scientists “Drop the Beats”, my first ever released mix album from 1998. I mixed this album with Zoe Richardson, who I ran the PM Scientists night with at Smithfield’s in East London and it includes killer tracks from DJ Krust, Photek & Technical Itch. I also co-produced the track “Spectra’s Theme” with Lagi who I used to work with at the Plink Plonk studios in Kings Cross.
CD2 was mixed brilliantly by Mo Morris together with The Psychonauts from Bournemouth.

Und er hat sich sogar extra ins Zeug gelegt und ein unglaublich umwerfendes samtiges Ambient-Set kreiert, das wunderbar mit Breakbeats angehaucht ist. Und wieder so ein zeitlosen Arka-Sound-Dokument … Tausend Dank mein Freund.

Desk Jockey

There’s a certain aura that surrounds the music coming out of Romania. The scene, something that has been in existence since the early 90’s has long been acknowledged as a breeding ground for illustrious DJ’s and producer talent. Anyone with even a passing interest in underground electronic music will attest that.

Having spent countless hours listening to a plethora of music genres while growing up in Romania, Adrian developed a wide knowledge of music, which helped him craft a rich sound of his own. Adrian started exploring the deeper and more experimental side of the music spectrum, after he relocated to Miami, Florida in 2006. His groove-infused sets, blending minimal and deep house, have landed him gigs at venues like Treehouse and Electric Pickle, which subsequently led to a residency at Do Not Sit On The Furniture.

From 2016 to 2020, Adrian shared the decks with the likes of YokoO, Tim Green, Hoj, WhoMadeWho, Nico Stojan, Jenia Tarsol, Dave Dk and many more.
