Technology continues to improve the lives of producers, most significantly the marvel of file transfer and electronic chat. Thus now enters a production friendship which spans the great North American continent. From Vancouver comes DJ Hockey. This lithe and prodigious talent is among a close cohort of pure, renegade artists composing the PNW underground community. On any given weekend, he and others like Adam Two are hauling speakers, fast at work on a new PPRZ release, or performing around a lineup of other stalwart heroes like Juana, Lonefront, and Patrick Russell. 
Thus when listener and web browser, Associate, took notice of DJ Hockey's invigorating and stripped down techno. It only took a few listens before he began his usual direct messaging campaign of heaping praise. Associate resides in the USA capital on the east coast, Washington, DC. After a trip abroad he saw his only path forward to include production. He spent his life continuously immersed with electronic music from his erstwhile point of origin, the midwest, and after 40 or 50 plugin purchases and numerous lessons, he finally took to it. In one afternoon, he was able to remix a DJ Hockey banger and the split EP idea was born.

This recording captures DJ Helena’s vinyl set at the first MORPH event, held on June 27, 2025, at OT301 in Amsterdam.

Blending ambient textures with broken beats and low-tempo techno, she delivered a deep and introspective opening that unfolded slowly and deliberately. The set began with an extended ambient passage, gradually building into a raw, percussive journey marked by heavy kicks and fragmented rhythms.

"This set was recorded at dawn on a Sunday morning, closing out a long day of incredibly inspiring music. I hadn’t gone to bed yet and was so locked into the sound that by the time I started playing, I was already deep in a trance. I took over from Formant Value & Simone Bauer’s live set, picking up the momentum where they left off, then gradually brought the BPM down, leaning into psychedelic textures and trance-laced rhythms.

Those two hours flew by - we were all locked in. It’s a rare kind of magic to do what you love in a place like Refractor, where most artists stay for the whole weekend to immerse themselves in the community and support each other. Music has this way of creating deep connections, and you could feel that throughout the festival. We were part of something unique.

And the crowd... what can I say. Even after a full day of dancing, they stayed with me through the entire set, joining me on the sonic journey I was crafting to carry us into the morning."

Swiss-born, London-based artist TSUNIMAN has gracefully imprinted the London scene with their spellbinding selections from the underground, spanning raw trance, spacey techno, tribal rhythms, and progressive delights. Cio D’Or hardly requires an introduction, having long stood as both a pillar of our scene and a source of inspiration for so many. Over the course of her singular and decades-spanning career, the Cologne-based artist has cultivated a universe of sound entirely her own, immediately recognizable yet endlessly evolving much like the work of her contemporaries and collaborators Mike Parker and Donato Dozzy. To experience Cio’s music is to follow a throughline that traces the complex history of contemporary techno in a single gesture, compelled by the vast unknown and the primordial familiar in equal measure. Recalling the blurred realism of Richter’s photo-paintings or the timeless intricacy of Bach’s fugues, Cio’s self-contained sonic world delicately reframes our own precious lifecycle, a reflection revealed through its elegant and subtractive minimalism.

In collaboration with our friends at Mostra, I’m honored to share a selection from Cio D’Or’s set performed at this year’s edition of the Barcelona-based festival, a sublime triumph from a scholar of sound.
