Next up in our mix series is the talented DJ and producer, hailing from the blossoming Naarm-scene - Zara. Guided by a profound state of introspection, Zara utilises intricate rhythms and deep atmospheres to draw out expressive qualities in music. Whether it’s IDM, drum and bass, or techno, the Kinesis label-head fuses it all with an enigmatic sense of delicacy. Embracing music production as personal catharsis, she developed a distinct sound at the crossroads of the calm and the energetic. 

In this mix Zara, takes us a journey ranging from peak-time spirits to more mind-leaning energies. Zara showcases how she traverses the polyrhythmic and trippy in innovative ways - blending it psy trance, brainy tek, psychedelic techno and broken syncopated beats. It's a monumental blend of genuine gravity, forging ahead with newfound light.

Ute Mix Series #87 | Zara

In anticipation of the next release on Eaux, a mini-album collaboration with Polygonia entitled "Dermatology," I have decided to release a rare recording of one of my live sets, taken from this year's Mostra Festival, located in the historic Montjuïc Castle overlooking Barcelona. Performing in the evening in this majestic location with the open-minded Mostra audience, I felt especially free to let this set unfold even more slowly and patiently than normal. Some of the material is taken from the upcoming release with Polygonia, so it also functions as a sort of hidden sneak preview. I hope you enjoy the journey :)

@sunjuhargun is based in Thailand and has been bringing all new energy to the Asian scene for more than 20 years. He has Indian heritage and Japanese roots which inform his mystic sound and the music he releases via the the label he co-founded, Siamese Twins Records. As he proved when he played our festival back in summer, he transcends musical and cultural borders to bring everything from, warm and percussive tribal grooves to more psychedelic sounds, acid textures and mind altering techno.

Sunju explains his approach to this week's mix. "I wanted to capture a special memory using records picked up during my trips between Amsterdam and Japan over the past few years. The result is a selection that blends the past, present, and future. As with every mix, I approach things naturally, with spontaneity. Live recordings have a unique energy that you can only feel in person, but sometimes that feeling can get lost when making a mix at home. This here is 60 mins of a raw, spontaneous reflection of friends in my living room, just hitting record and going for it. No filter, no perfection—just creativity with a limited selection.”

Swiss DJ/Producer Audrey Danza debuts for the Bassiani Podcast series with an hour and a half of her own music, composed mostly of her unreleased tracks as well as a few exciting collaborations. From tripped-out techno, to house and trance bent rhythms, this mix shows that Audrey’s course has been nothing short of impressive, from Geneva and now Berlin. Since her intro to the local scene back in 2019, she’s racked up a residency at multidisciplinary event space Motel Campo, played clubs from Panorama Bar to Circoloco to Robert Johnson and Fabric, and, as a means of rereleasing lost 80-90s records at first (and now her own productions as well), kicked off her label Proxima in 2020. She’s also been active in the world of Berlin nightlife, where she relocated since 2022, with frequent collabs with the Sound Metaphors family, from party series to collaborations around her label. On top of a busy schedule and a growing pile of remixes and from the ground up productions, Audrey stays the course. Her sound is a fusion of industrial beats and percussions, acid, 90s synths house, self-aware and constantly cross-referencing to sculpt a fleshed out world of sound that’s psychedelic and deeply immersive. Bassiani Podcast 268 is a signature mix of warped transmissions and assembly line beats, a gradual burn and sharp ascent to peak-time techno compiled by a leading light of the Swiss electronic music scene. “I wanted to start the mix slightly faster and with more energy than I usually do. I already had the Aleksi Perälä song in my head as an intro for a set so I went for it and built the mix from there. While doing the tracklisting the mix slowly dissolved into the emotional ambient ending which happened very naturally and felt right.”

As we approach the end of summer, I am delighted to welcome Marius Bø to Deep Mind Music with an ethereal mix of celestial atmospheres to calm the soul ✧｡⋆.

Inspired by recent time spent in the mountains of Norway, the mix takes us high into the stratosphere, where whispers of cirrus clouds melt into the surrounding sky. Gentle blankets of emotive tones morph around us, as we are carried forth into the sacred chambers of the inner mind.

As the mix progresses, delicate arpeggiated spirals bloom across the imagination, and we are held in delicate suspension above the earth, floating, weightless, in quiet introspection. Thank you Marius for this beautiful mix, a space for deep reflection and blissful harmony within.
