Not so long ago, Levon Vincent took over our Motion Room with his inimitable style. The owner of Novel Sound puts in motion a knotty two hours mix where emotions collide with minimalism. Delicates melodies, satisfying synths, the recorded set sums up pretty much the hallmark of the American artist and perfectly captures the experience of a heady night on Fuse’s second floor. New Year’s Eve is here and in honour of the occasion, we’re forgoing our characteristically downtempo Sunday Mix for a special weekend instalment of our flagship series, with Max Cooper at the controls. Bookmark this one for whatever you have in store for this evening – or any other occasion, of course.

In his own words, the innovation-driven producer and visual artist opts for a “psychedelic techno adventure” featuring tracks from JakoJako, Barker, Oliver Coates, Rival Consoles, ANNĒ and Venetian Snares. “Lots of melodies and beautiful feelings to get lost in," Cooper begins, "but also lots of unexpected turns and mind-mangling soundworlds, and plenty of genre-hopping so you never quite know what's around the next corner."

Kicking off our Live from Dimensions 23' series with a fiery mix from Cartulis' @unai-trotti. This spine-tingling 2-hour recording takes us straight back to Saturday evening at Cosmos, Unai taking the reigns from Raphael Carrau and guiding us into the night with a signature blend of techno, electro, breaks and more. 

This is a first of many live recordings from the summer that we look forward to sharing in the new year.

A few words from the artist:

1/ How would you describe your personal connection to music and how it influences your creative process?

Music is my life; it's the only field I've ever worked in. I've had a deep emotional connection with music since my teenage New Wave years. When I'm plugged into music, my brain is full on —not just as a DJ or remixer but also as an A&R.

Managing three music labels and a publishing company means I get creative on various levels. It's not just about my personal expression, but also about finding ways to share music with the world and nurture the growth of younger artists.


2/ As an artist, how do you see the intersection between fashion and music? 

It's boundary-less nowadays; art, fashion, and music are all intricately woven together. Younger generation's versatility with tools like Blender and Ableton, not to mention their ability to delve into art and even create their own fashion changed the rules The influence of social media has further blurred the lines. Now, everyone is their own stylist, and artists have become both talents and faces of brands.
I've always linked music to fashion. 


3/ What particularly interested you in collaborating with Études to make this mix? 

I wear Etudes every day and I listen to music every day, so it just made sense to me.
I’ve been a longtime fan of the brand, especially the bombers. I also like the collabs and the themes around the city. 


4/ How did you curate this musical sequence/audio journey? 

As Etudes' recent collections are heavily centered around the urban landscape, I aimed to create something that resonates with the city vibe. During my travels in Asia, while curating the music selection, the idea struck me to craft a mixtape perfect for driving. Simultaneously, I envisioned it as a fitting soundtrack for a video game.
The mix carries a strong influence from 90s prog house. While journeying and partying across Asia, memories of playing Wipeout in the 90s flooded my mind. The game, set in a futuristic city, mirrored the adolescent idea we had of Asia MEGAPOLE  while playing.

Alex Picone is a man who's seen many trends come and go and is now existing in a space outside of them; without a doubt occupying a unique spot in the dance music landscape. 

Primarily known these days as one of the co-founders of Seekers and Small Black Dots, with an extensive discography behind him and having put his hand to numerous other projects, there's a maturity to both his production and DJing that's rarely seen in tandem.

This propulsive, two-hour mix blurs the lines between the two; laden with Alex's own productions, the singularity of his artistic vision and depth of his record bag is on full display.

Ahead of Amniote Editions’ 5 year anniversary night at Bassiani on the 6th of December (cancelled due to street protests) comes a very special mix from Munich’s finest, BASHKKA. Derived from the Turkish word for ‘different’ (she has roots there), the name reflects a no f*cks given approach to sound and culture that draws people toward her like moth to flame. From formative days in New York City where she started taking inspiration from its wealth of queer histories, she carved an insubordinate sound that’s crossed the Atlantic and set up shop in her native Germany, where her liberating tunes have found common cause with such venues as Blitz Club, Panorama Bar and Amsterdam’s Raum just a hop and a skip across the border. The aim is to reclaim spaces, assert the existence of marginalised groups (SWANA people like herself for one), amplify their narratives and create moments’ where ‘individual heartbeats merge into one motherbeat’. Further to those activist visions, her debut EP Maktub (2023) was a five-track banger and labour of love that synthesised Kurdish vocal samples with runaway beats. The reference to overlooked perspectives and elusive spark found at the intersection of culture and sound is the driving force, and something that’s felt in the gut when she plays. It’s a much needed energy in turbulent times, a reminder that you can save the world and have fun doing it. For Bassiani Podcast 242, BASHKKA brings her inimitable rhythms to the fore of the counter-cultural struggle: brazen and rave-ready, a two-hour trip to the future, slamming beats from a true icon.
