GREYSCALE Special 035 - Upwellings

@insect-o composes music between ambient, dub and techno. In 1998 he founded the label @etui-records. His latest EP Sandstones came out in March 2023. In the tracks, he combines field recordings with rippling chords, soundscapes from his modular synthesizer and a fat bottom-end. But there is always more to discover. Besides his music, the Dresden-based artist shares a big passion for travelling. At the Atacama desert, he found the inspiration for his first full-length, released in 2018. With Melbourne’s @echoinspectors he recorded Bourne Dub and Bribie Dub, which has been released on Australian Primary [Colours] imprint. Insect O. is an old hand in Dresden’s electronic music scene. Enthusiastic about the radio show electronics on East German radio station DT64 in the early nineties he started buying records and making music at the age of 14. In the late 90s, he was a co-promoter and resident DJ of Dresden’s famous techno club Flugzeugwerft. Today he organizes workshops about music production for @davefestival in Dresden. DAVE Live Jam invites artists to bring their gear for a 2 hours music jam.

For the next ep of Spectral Voices I invited @ohm-599575574, a mainstay of the Icelandic techno scene with over 20 releases on labels such as Thule records, Rawax, Kontakt, Solid Groove, Taped Artifact, Ranges, Vade mecum, Vuo records and AE Recordings which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records.

Now, Ohm runs his own imprint called 'Ohm Series', where he shines a light on a mixture of well-beloved veterans and some vibrant new names pushing techno's sonic boundaries. His integrity to the dub techno sound is the cornerstone of its operation.

I play for most of the first hour, then Ohm's mix starts from 53mins.

After several years of experiencing the most renowned European festival dancefloors as a festival-goer, Elie aka 6KDA decided to step behind the turntables in 2019.

His name comes from the « cicada »  and refers to his origins in the South of France as well as the famous fable by La Fontaine.

His musical universe quickly took shape around House and Techno, genres he enjoys exploring in search of new sounds. This led him to discover Dub Techno, a genre that he became passionate about.

Since then, Elie has performed at a number of festivals and events, including La Pamparina in Thiers, the first edition of the OHA festival in Rouen, and the week of short films competition at Le lieu-dit in Clermont-Ferrand. He has also played at 101, a club in Clermont-Ferrand known for its techno scene.
