The Bunny Tylers - I'll Make It Up To You (Etyen Remix)

Thawra records founder Etyen unveils his new EP "Yasmine" deeply embedded in, and exploring his native musical roots. Yasmine offers 3 original tracks and a remix by German-Iranian Electronica producer Namito (Sol Selectas, Bedrock).

Eibada, Yasmine and Ibada seamlessly fuse syncopated rhythms, oriental melodies and driving synth bass-lines & Electronica elements, with a warm and cinematic quality. From a story-telling standpoint, each track forms a chapter in a 3-part critique on identity, and the clash of cultures that parallels the duality within the Lebanese artist, born from one culture and yet adopting another.

Eibada, meaning "worship", tackles the ideas of regressive patriarchal notions embedded in Lebanese society, idolising false gods and holding their opinions as gospel, serving malice in the name of holy worship. On the other hand, Yasmine, the emblematic flower, highlights and reflects on the beauty and intellect found within this conflicted society, while finally, Ibada, meaning "extinction", devolves back into pessimistic outlooks on the path we're leading and where we are headed.

Perfectly complimenting this package is Namito's revolution inspired remix of Eibada, using sounds recorded from the Lebanese revolution which erupted on October 17 2019. Namito masterfully delivers a dreamy club ready mix that packs a punch and holds nothing back with its thematically poignant message.

Thawra Records is proud to present it's very first release: Kayen by Etyen

Kayen is the 5th solo EP by Lebanese Electronica musician, producer and Red Bull Music Academy Alumnus Etyen, releasing just a few months after his EP "Bebe" and the massively successful breakout track "Elephant in the Room" earlier in 2019.

With this release, Etyen explores a dreamier side of Electronica and dance music, with two original compositions 'Kayen' and 'Me Voy' both embodying lo-fi, ethereal textures and deep atmospheres with flourishing synth progressions driven by energetic and powerful grooves. Starting with the title track's ethereal ambience, and set to a punchy rhythm with a flurry of hi-hats, 'Kayen' evolves and explodes into melody with intoxicating Arpeggios. We then move into a darker and more introspective direction with 'Me Voy', driven by a simple, deep, melodic bass progression, layered with synth and vocal textures and supported by a consistent groove, it picks up the energy from the previous track with ever-growing layers of melodies that later climax and settle into a boomy minimalistic and subtle techno finale.
While the EP is not, strictly speaking, a peak-time dance-floor record, Etyen's sweeping melodies, intricate rhythms and peculiar sound design all coalesce into a swirling, groovy and evocative mix that is sure to engage the listener, wherever they may be.

A Midnight Drive

Etyen is a Beirut-based musician, recording artist, composer and music producer described as being “at the forefront of the Lebanese electronic music scene”. He is an Alumni of the Red Bull Music Academy and OneBeat 2015. Whether solo or with others, he performs & produces Electronica music drawing from a wide range of genres and influences from Downtempo to Indie, Techno & Beyond .

Described as "a wizard of Electronica", and weaving together sounds from a plethora of sources,  whether through recordings of his own performances, cross-continental collaboration or remixing the likes of Lebanese luminaries Mashrou’ Leila, Etyen creates a unique sound universe that is at once global and rooted in his local scene, with an eclectic catalogue that saw him tour and perform at the likes of Rbma Montreal Festival, Sonar Barcelona, Mutek, and many more over the last decade.
