Performed on 24 April 2014, Studio 1, Koninklijk Conservatorium.

1. When visiting a museum of historical artifacts, one might encounter a small bronze mirror about the size of a human palm.

2. These artifacts have elaborate engravings on their non-reflective side. The engravings depict images ranging from abstract patterns to scenes of symbolic animals.

3. The reflective side is never shown, perhaps due to tarnishing and deterioration.

The evening of August 19th, 2015, we were riding back home on Tram 9 (Diemen Sniep) in Amsterdam. I can't say that the loudness and density of squeakiness on that tram were more than normal, but it was very "listen-able" on this particular evening. 

One could imagine the large structure of the tram embodying all the relations of squeaky joints and components in some disrepair: a squeaky ecology. The fact that the city's transportation infrastructure is always under construction always provides some unpredictability (and excitement?) for a tram and its squeaky joints. This is what we had agreed on having heard.

Now I like to remember that much of the time we are just squeaking joints along for the ride; except, these trams aren't really made to crash. Thanks, GVB (http://www.gvb.nl/).

On intimacy (ending sections)

When I write, I like to think about pluralism, class, and identity as it exists in all the unspoken ways it does among creative peoples. I also reflect often on how to live a meaningful life and how to love.

My works have been realized primarily across Europe and the United States. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance and composition from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and a Master’s degree in composition from the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague. I am currently residing in Los Angeles, California.
