Remastered version of an improvised work performer and recorded at the local church in Courances France, just 40 minutes south of Paris towards Fontainebleau. The inspirations range from Nico Muhly, 70s rock, baroque pop. All instruments played and recorded without editing by Eugene Feygelson. Mixing and mastering following three years later, as this was written two months into the first lockdown during the first Covid period. 

To remind, in France we were confined to one outdoor activity per day, restricted to travel within 1km, and I had recently escaped from my 12 years in the UK by throwing all of my belongings into a camper van and descending into France, where I have remained ever since. 

In Courances, grace a Lia Walton, I happened to be housed for two months beside a 16th century church, with a chamber door accessible from the garden of the Presbytere where I was staying. I am indebted to her support and kindness, as well as the community of Courances, Patrick, Isabelle, Agnes, Richard and many others.

Courances (May 2019)

Written two weeks after the October 7th attack on the Nova festival in southern Israel, it was apparent the arrogant and brutal Israeli response was hardly justified given the occupation and apartheid context the inhabitants of Gaza had been subjected to. Now, nearly 4 months into the 'conflict', it is clear the leadership of Israel and its followers have committed war crimes originally designed to protect from the Holocaust that Israel's establishment was supposed to protect against. 

It was with deep sadness that I learned more details about the attack on the individuals at the Nova festival, the poor women and their brutal murder, rape and mutilation by terrorists filled me with great sadness, having learned about this directly from a social worker and spiritual healer close to the victims. 

However, given the wider context, and the now formal geneocide being committed by the Israeli establishment, we cannot condone any further lenience to those state criminals. I hope some sort of justice is served, that a distant future may resemble a state much like Palestine before 1946 as outlined by Ariel Azoulay or Ian Black. 

This work is expanded in my video piece 'Israel 1991' which depicts me as a 6 years old climbing on multicoloured Israeli tanks. In fact, in Israel the military quality is made 'familial' and my parents encouraged me to 'play' amongst three tanks, one blue, one yellow, another red, as a 6 year old. It wasn't until the age of 22 when I arrived in Cambridge that I was able to realise that this deep lie was embedded in my emotional, psychological and physiological system. Many years later, I am lucky to have created a nuanced vision, as the great grandson of Zionists, the grandson of Israelis, and the nephew of an uncle who is currently on his death bed in Tel Aviv. 

I hope for peace, I hope for ceasefire, and I hope for mutual recognition.
