'The Light Festival' is a fantasy scenario in which the racial tensions between the Kanko and Illbo tribes (representing Korea and Japan respectively) have been laid to rest, and Winston and Gemma - a couple from opposing tribes - are able to celebrate their love without facing discrimination or hostility. The music draws heavily from traditional Korean and Japanese music, as well as material from both 'Lights' and 'Ao Boshi Matsuri' from the Rakuen soundtrack.

The piece is written for seven instruments - three Korean (gayageum, janggu and jing), three Japanese (koto, shakuhachi and taiko), and piano. The piece begins with 'Lights', before introducing a combination of a traditional Korean 'jangdan' (rhythmic pattern) on the janggu and a common beat for an 'ondo' (a dance for the Japanese Bon festival) on the taiko that leads into 'Ao Boshi Matsuri'.

The Korean instruments then play 'Arirang', a famous Korean folk tune, which is answered by the Japanese instruments playing 'Sakura Sakura', a traditional Japanese melody, representing an exchange of cultures between the Kanko and Illbo tribes. The instruments come together for a combination of 'Lights' and 'Ao Boshi Matsuri', joined by the piano - a tribute to Laura Shigihara's frequent use of the piano in her music.

​The piece finishes with a trio between the koto, gayageum and piano, representing the hope for greater interaction and understanding between the two 'tribes' as portrayed by Rakuen's creator.
