Thought to be lost forever, I discovered an actual high quality MA-XG TDK cassette I recorded from Omar's original Master Ampex Reel which was made in the early months of 1984, exactly 30 years ago today.  Multiple Editing was an integral part of 80's Dance Music and even though it was The Latin Rascals who made splicing tape popular in the early 80's, it was Omar Santana who took editing to another level which was never duplicated by anyone.  And this mix is the proof.

I spent most of my weekends in Omar's lab in Hollis, Queens in 1984 and we figured out the formula for tape moving at 15 inches per second X 120 BPM's = 7.5 inches per beat.  With this formula, splicing tape became an art, everything was in perfect time and kicks could be replaced by snares and repeated in machine gun fashion,

This is Electronic Dance Music being created in the beginning when technology was at it's birth.

Between 1985 and 1988 there was a radio show broadcast in the UK that introduced the kids of the day to real Hip HopMusic. It originally started on Capital Radio , was hosted by Mike Allen and was called the Capital Rap Show.  It was then picked up by the TDK cassette company and turned into a national show, National Fresh, syndicated on local stations. I used to record the show religiously on Friday evenings on one cassette, rotating sides every weeks so that I had one week on one side and the previous weeks on the other side
This is one of the final two weeks of the show before it was axed by TDK after the financial crash in 1987/1988.

Hip Hop 87 - Completed using 1 x Revox B99 reel to reel recorder, 2 x Technics SL1200's, standard DJ Mixer, and lots and lots of vinyl in December 1987 at DMC HQ in Slough!

Also much 1/2inch tape, reams of editing tape and loads of razor blades.
These were very basic times, indeed.
