This song is an original theme song for the docu “The Frysk” (pilot) “The Downfall”.

John Styles was asked to compose a new piece for this docu, and while he was arranging this song, he also got the idea that our band could play around with it as well.
He added instruments which wouldn’t be used for the docu anyway, and Ralf and Matt started to play their bits on it so we could build it up like a sort of Ambient / Celtic / Chill Out / Progressive Rock kind of song, and we could experiment with new instruments.

As our band also like to do instrumentals, and Hemmo is still not feeling well enough to join in, we decided to release it as it is now (with the permission of the producers of the docu).

Although it isn’t what you expect from us, we still hope you’ll enjoy this instrumental just as much as you did with our other songs, and we do appreciate your comments, critics and support very much.

Euphoriqa - Legend of the Frysk (the Downfall)

This piece: 'Conquest of Paradise' is a cover from Vangelis, and most people would know it as a theme track for the movie “1492”.

In 2002, John Styles and his former co-writer / composer Jaap, began to create another arrangement for this song in Germany, but were never able to complete and release it, as Jaap became very ill. From the moment this song was released by Vangelis (1992), Jaap and I wanted to convert it as a duet Orchestral / Band effort, and we even wanted to create solo guitar tracks for it, to run along with The Orchestra at the end. However, John and Jaap were unable to completely finish it.

This song thus stayed on the shelf to be re-discovered and picked up again, and in 2013, because Jaap is no longer with us, both John and Matt started building on the very first ideas / tracks which had been started in 2002 in Germany.

As a result of this new beginning, 'The Orchestra' felt inspired and wanted to play this song as a part of their curriculum, entailing a rebirth and rearrangement of what had already been started by John and Jaap in 2002.  We hoped to join forces so that the band 'Euphoriqa' and 'The Orchestra' could play together as one, utilising the skills and techniques of orchestral and synth-style music. We hope that we have managed to achieve this in the way intended.

In the beginning of this song, 'Euphoriqa' keeps the lead of the song, and 'The Orchestra' is supposed to come in (at around 2:20), and they both join together again as one at the end part in a wonderful crescendo. The volumes of this version, were deliberately premastered on a massive scale, because we did not want this song to end up sounding like and released by others like a remix.

Unfortunately, due to little studio availability and practise time for members of  'The Orchestra', we all decided only last Friday (6-9-13), to pre-release this song to share with you, as a 'Euphoriqa' release, and then to continue this duet further at a later stage.  Thus, what you are listening to now is still a WIP [Work in Progress], and other members of 'Euphoriqa' will also contribute more with additional guitar solos.

Irrespective, what you hear now brings us great pride and inspiration to continue working on it further and to share with you. Because this version is still a WIP, and may not be of the quality that many have come to expect from us, or perhaps what we even aimed for, we achieved this in such a small amount of time, that we are very proud of what we have accomplished so far.   

I only wish that my former co-writer / composer, Jaap, was here now to enjoy working further on this latest version, but I know he would have loved it very much. Thus,  I would also like to dedicate this piece, 'Conquest of Paradise' to my dear friend Jaap.

Euphoriqa - Conquest of Paradise

We proudly present the pre-release of our first single “Be as One”, the next weeks we will do the finishing touches to make it perfect, but for now we would really like to know what you think, and maybe you can give us some advices as well.

I came up with this song while I was asked to make some music for a commercial, and while I was making different versions, I thought we as band could even combine them into a song in a bit more Chill Out / Funky Progressive Rock kind of style.

The real title is "We should all BE as ONE to fight hunger, pain and grief" but that would be to long for a title, but that's what I meant to say. 

Because of the latest news, and the subjects on talk shows lately, I was shocked, while so many things happens in the world, they seem to bother and make such a fuss about so many (little) things, and they seem to forget the real problems our world is facing lately. 
I've asked myself, WHY can't we first take care of the real problems, and try to help each other instead of using up all the time complaining about NOTHING (peanuts things), are we NUTS??
We should BE as ONE to fight the REAL problems in the world, and help each other first.

Now the (technical) music side of this piece:
As I already noticed, a lot of people are wondering John and Hip-Hop or Funk??? 
Well as most of my friends know, I like to experiment with all music styles, and try to merge my orchestral sounds with any styles, especially when people tell me it can't be done, we’re all on it immediately.
In this piece we've tried combine / merge many music styles and instruments, and tried to see what instruments could be used.
I believe with all styles of music, an orchestra can do it too with some adjustments, and that's exactly what I am trying to accomplish with this song too. 
Then I’ve asked all members of Euphoriqa to join in, and do their own part with their talents, unfortunately Hemmo still can’t join us, so I’ve asked Andreas Hoffmann to help us with his great talents to play the solo guitars, which I think he did just splendidly.
Many of you already know, that we’ll continue till we’re completely satisfied with it, that’s why we’ll need a few more sessions for the final CD / single release.

Euphoriqa - Be as One

Welcome to our latest release 'Photographs' by Euphoriqa.

This latest track has been inspired by one of the most precious possessions we all own, family and personal photographs.  Much has changed in recent years, with the conception of digital photography, with cameras fitted to almost every conceivable electronic and mobile device. This revolution has given, almost everybody, a seemingly endless opportunity to capture personal experiences of their journey through life, of their view of the amazing things that are to be found on this wonderful planet.

Strangely this change has also vastly altered the way cameras and photographs are actually used to record these events and in a way this has perhaps reduced their place in key moments of our lives,or the significance we actually place on taking photo's. Camera's, or should I say a new 'film', used to be very much part of the preparations for holidays, special occasions and family gatherings. The use of each roll of film was carefully considered and each picture, carefully timed to get the 'right shot'. There used to be great excitement in waiting for the each film to be developed, and families would often gather just to see the pictures, which in its self was reason for another celebration or special event. It's fair to say that many of these pictures, didn't turn out to be so good and that is one thing the digital age has improved. But the best of the old pictures used to end up presented with great pride, in albums that would take pride of place in our homes and as such would be taken out and enjoyed and celebrated with friends and visitors, almost becoming part of the story of each family, a true legacy.

These 'Photographs' are not just pictures of times we may wish to remember, but actual windows into our lives, into the very hearts of those we love and have been loved by. In this respect they are like snap shots of our own memories of good times, things we have enjoyed, moments we've shared, wonderful places we've seen and of those who we hold so dearly in our hearts.

This song is our tribute to what those 'photographs'  represent to each of us and also to a partly bygone era, when the use of a camera was perhaps part of a what made us stop and think how special a moment actually was, how much it actually meant to us. 

Please don't misunderstand us as we all embrace the digital age and its many benefits, but in a world that is almost inundated with pictures, how many are really what we used to call 'Photographs'.

This song was covered by John, Hemmo and Ralf about 1 year ago, and was suppose to be improved, but never came through.
Finally all members of our band joined forces and recorded everything all over again, and improved the orchestral arrangement, and made all instruments and vocals sound even better then it did before.  
When George Harrison made this song, he also wanted to make an orchestral version of this song, in 1989 this idea came back  talking about it with Jeff Lynne, but for some reason the guys were to busy, also recording other songs for “The Traveling Wilburys”.
Hopefully we did his song right giving it our orchestral sound George would have wanted for it, and we hope you’ll enjoy it too.

Euphoriqa - Isn't it a Pity (tribute to George Harrison)

Welcome to our new (original) song, I wrote/composed this song in 1989, and although many attempts were made to finish it by other bands, somehow it never sounded the way I wanted, so the song ended up on the shelf, till we picked it up again and started recording.

The song tells a true story, as it really happened to me, after so many disappointments in relationships that I and this love (back then) had to endure, we were afraid to give it a try (although we were both very much in love with eachother) because of experiences in the past.
This still happens to people today, that’s why these words are still valid, if you fall in love so deeply, go for it, because later you’ll be sorry if you didn’t, and you’ll always ask yourself what if……….., love is a strange thing, but overwhelming at the same time.
Although we tried, the distance (USA / Europe) became an issue after all, so we split up, but we both had a wonderful time together, and we still have good memories about the time back then, now we’re both married, but not with eachother, we stayed good friends,  John Styles.

Even though you can think you know what you are about and what makes you tick etc, when you meet that special person, everything clicks!

Finally a new instrumental release from “Euphoriqa” feat. Colin Powell and Andreas Hoffmann, this time we tried to include all music styles and instruments from all the continents of the world, to give this song a real all-round feel and texture throughout, so it would really have a “Everybody or all included” mood.
It was a experiment to try an classical oriented piece, merge with NewAge, Ambient, R&B, Rock&Roll and Alt Rock.
The very talented Colin and Andreas really spiced up this song very much, and we’re all very happy with the end result, and we hope you all are too, your comments and advices are much appreciated.
Thanks too Ralf Reichelt for his help by combining some of those instruments the sound is so smoothly now.

Original Description of the song:
I woke up angry after I saw little children and baby's crying on TV last night in all the war's that we can't seem to stop, a docu showed that greedy people in the world (weapon industry) is pushing everybody to continue making war so they can sell as much weapons as possible, but now also it seems that banks and the financial market are involved as well, activists trying to stop this, are made silence (good way or the wrong way), even Holland the country I was always so proud of, is very much involved with this shit, so I had to get it out of my system.
I think when you hear this piece you can hear my words, grief and anger (at least I hope).

I started this piece mellow, as I am looking to our beautiful world and nature.
In the 2nd part I tried to express how I see little children playing around having fun and being happy.
In the 3rd part I tried to express how “WE” the elders just mess up things up for ourselves and our kids.
In the 4th part all questions and answers which we can see or hear on TV, but nobody has any answers or solutions
The 5th part is the bridge or the intermezzo so you will, so we can all think about ourselves, and what we want, or how we wanto continue, I am trying to bring you back to the serenity of nature.
The 6th part I continue with how things are now, and you can fill in your own story, hopes and wishes among all the opinion all other people have all over the world.
The 7th part (the outro) I am going back to how I hope we can all return, the serenity and the real joy of life as it should be, and I also hope you’ve figured out yourself how you want it to be.

This is not meant to be an aggressive piece of music or so, somehow it's my prayer to end all this idiot behaviour of all people in the world, and we start loving, respecting and caring for one another.

Euphoriqa (feat. Andreas & Colin) - Peace for Everybody

Welcome to our cover of a never released single by “Münchener Freiheit” the English version of “Du bist Energy fur mich” written and composed by Stefan Zauner.
Nobody understood why it was only a bonus track on their double album “Definitive Collection”.
Many attempts were made to make an extended version, and they came with a German “Album” version of this song on their album “Energie”, but an English version was never released as single, only as a (short) bonus track, as the band were not satisfied with the end-production of the English version.

John Styles and Jaap van Oostveen wanted to make a completely different arrangement / version for this English version, unfortunately they never completely finished it, so it ended up at a shelf.

When Stefan left de band Freiheit in 2012, we knew this English version would never be released.
John asked Matt Baker to join him and they decided to make an extended English version of this song.
When we finished making the full instrumental, we couldn’t finish our vocal recordings on it, also because Hemmo was not well, so John decided to ask the German band “Berührt” to join singing on this song.

Euphoriqa (feat. Berührt) - You're my kind of Energy

Welcome to our new version of “Always the Sun” a cover of “The Stranglers”.

We already recorded and released this is song 3 years ago, but we always wanted to do it all over again, now that Hemmo is recovered, we went back into the studio and recorded the acc guitars, synth and backing vocals again and cleaned up our old recordings which could still be used, in this new production to get the sound the way we wanted it to sound like.

First we took all FX out from all older tracks, then I multilayered as I do lately wit all out songs, and played with the fazes and panning, and try to prevent the rewire technique as much as possible and still get this powerful sound by just use the clean recordings and multi layering those instead of using we using the volumes, so we’ll keep the proper dynamics as well, so there’s practically no FX on our tracks anymore, instead we created / used carrier tracks to accomplish the natural effect, so we would maintain our own signature / style on this cover.

After we heard the new mix (after all the changes) Hemmo wanted to replay and replace all acc guitars, and John made a new (improved) recording on the backing vocals, synth and strings, and replaced the old tracks.
So now all tracks, voices and instruments are played and recorded “LIVE”, we hope you all enjoy this new re-mastered version of this song (cover) and we really appreciate all your comments and advices as always.

Euphoriqa - Always the Sun

This song “Cheer Down” is a (cover) tribute too and composed by George Harrison.
Almost 4 years ago, Hemmo and John recorded (and released) the Japanese album version:

We wanted to do it all over again, and checked all 7 versions we could find on the net, and on the rarity track’s album Jeff Lynne released, 2 versions stood out for us, and we choose the UK single version to redo / record all over again from scratch, we might do the (rare extended) orchestral version later on as well.

This song is also know as theme-song on the soundtrack for the movie “Lethal Weapon 2”, it turned up on the teasers (promotions) for the film unexpectedly, but was recognized as such afterwards.
Cheer Down was created during a jam session between George Harrison and Tom Petty who both wrote the lyrics on an idea (composition) George already had, as a country rock song, but it ended up on the shelf as it didn’t sounded the way it is now, only when Jeff Lynne heard this rough version, George and Jeff decided to re-arrange it as this version now, Jeff continued making / mixing down more different versions.
George wife Olivia came up with the title of the song, with her saying: : "Okay, cheer down, big fellow," when he would get too enthusiastic”.

It’s not known how this song ended up as a soundtrack too, it might have to do with what Jeff Lynne already did for the movies “Xanadu” and “Electric Dreams”, it was decided after the final cut editing of the movie. 
In an interview, George said the song sounded completely different after Jeff started working with it.

While we were listening to all those different versions, Hemmo and John noticed how many different harmonies were used to complete them, even the instruments sounded and were played differently from each other, it took us 16 different mixes to get this version to both our satisfaction, but to get it right we had to replay and record all the tracks all over again from scratch, also to get all the harmonies sound good too.
When all the tracks were done, the mixing process started, but this time we multi-layered them instead of using volume and panning additions, and still have this (clear) massive power, we hope you all like it too.
We always have big fun working together, and Hemmo’s talent is well known to most of you, making music is fun again for us both, especially remaking all these earlier releases we’ve done in a new coat, and this time as a band effort with Euphoriqa, we hope the other guys will join us some day soon too.

Euphoriqa - Cheer Down (tribute to George Harrison)

Welcome to our new song and our interpretation / cover and tribute too The Beatles, “Free as a Bird”

History of “Free as a Bird”:

"Free as a Bird" was originally recorded by John Lennon in 1977, and although Lennon had died in 1980, the three remaining Beatles agreed they would pretend that Lennon had "gone for lunch", or had gone for a "cup of tea" The remaining Beatles, overdubs and production were done between February and March 1994, and they recorded a track around Lennon's basic song idea, but which had gaps they had to fill in musically.  Some chords were changed, and the arrangement was expanded to include breaks for McCartney and Harrison to sing extra lines. Harrison played slide guitar in the solo, and Jeff Lynne was asked to produce the song. 

The original tape of Lennon singing the song was recorded on a mono cassette, with vocals and piano on the same track, They were impossible to separate, so Jeff Lynne had to produce the track with voice and piano together, but commented that it was good for the integrity of the project, as Lennon was not only singing occasional lines, but also playing on the song.

Although the song received the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, it was very much criticised, not be a genuine Beatles song, it was seen as a publicity gimmick, exploiting the Beatles brand, and owing less to the Beatles than to Lynne.
The song reached the top 10 almost everywhere, but did not reach the number 1 position anywhere.

The Euphoriqa Production:

Matt Baker and John Styles recorded an instrumental version between June and August 2013, but it ended up on the shelf because we didn’t have the proper guitars and vocals for it.
June 2016 Hemmo Riihelä and John Styles picked up this instrumental version and continued to recording the missing Guitars and all the vocals, and adjusted the Bass, Piano’s, Synth and Strings and added some extra instruments to create the proper harmonies that would fit the lead and backing vocals.
Although we’ve given this song our own signature (especially at the encore) we’ve listened to Jeff Lynne’s way of producing this song many times, to stay as close as possible as he intended the song to be.
It took us more then a month sending tracks back and forth to complete this song the way we wanted both to sound like, especially the harmonies between the vocals and instruments gave us a lot of headaches and work to get it all done properly, but we hope we finally accomplished that anyway.

Euphoriqa - Free As A Bird (Tribute to The Beatles)

History behind “The Ballad of John & Yoko”:

Although The Ballad of John and Yoko is registered in the name of Lennon-McCartney, most of the song is written and composed by John Lennon. The text of the song is an autobiographical account of recent events in the life of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

The first verse of the song refers to the attempts by Lennon and Ono to get married on a ferry in the English Channel. Arrived in the port of Southampton, there appeared to be problems with Ono's passport and appeared to be allowed to join the captain no marriages ferry lake.

The second verse describes Lennon and Ono then decided to travel to Paris. There they received a call from assistant Peter Brown who told them that they could get married on the peninsula Gibraltar. They flew to the peninsula and there were married on March 20, 1969. None of the other Beatles were also present.

In the third verse describes how Lennon and Ono at the Amsterdam Hilton hotel held a so-called bed-in. They spent the period 25 March to 31 March by their bed in room 702. From 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, they spoke with the media and tried in this way to get attention for world peace.


In the Amsterdam Hilton hotel Lennon and Ono held a bed-in for peace.
After that Lennon and Ono flew to Vienna, where their third film Rape was on Austrian television premiere. This was described in the fourth couplet. In Vienna they gave at the Sacher Hotel a press conference in a bag. This because they wanted to draw attention to stereotyping and prejudice:. If everybody would go into a pocket for an interview with his head, people would just only on the basis of their qualities are evaluated. They called this Bagism.

In the final verse describes how Lennon and Ono return to England and send acorns to 50 world leaders.

The song was recorded on April 14, 1969 at Abbey Road Studios in London. In this session were only John Lennon and Paul McCartney provided. George Harrison was abroad on holiday and Ringo Starr working that day at the shooting of the film The Magic Christian.

There was that day 11 takes of the backing track set, which take 10 was the best. Paul McCartney played the drums take, Lennon played lead guitar and sang the lead vocal, McCartney bass guitar, piano and backing vocals and lead guitar twice and once added to this acoustic guitar backing track by Lennon.

Although there was a lot of tension in that period between Lennon and McCartney, which influenced the atmosphere during shooting day. There was even room for some jokes. Between exposures Lennon told the drumming McCartney, "go a bit faster, Ringo!" Which McCartney said Lennon playing the guitar with "OK, George!"

Starr and Harrison had apparently no problem with them not played a role in the new single. Ringo felt good drumming was on The Ballad of John And Yoko and George said he had only objected when the song The Ballad of John, George and Yoko had been called, and they all agreed the song would be released by The Beatles.

Although we already released another version:  https://soundcloud.com/onevision-crossworlds/john-styles-age-r-ballad-of almost 4 years ago, Hemmo and John decided to record all tracks all over again to get a better quality of sound, we hope you all think we've accomplished that.

The ballad of John and Yoko (tribute to John Lennon)

Welcome to a new song from Euphoriqa featuring Colin Powell & Claes Steen called Rainbow Symphony.

When Claes send his new song to John, immediately John played with piano a melody to it, and reconstructed the song and made it longer. then send it too Colin, he added drums, bass and guitars to it, and wrote lyrics and recorded samples so for John to consider, he made a new mix, and he send it to Hemmo, so he could re-record all vocals and harmonies.
When Hemmo send his vocal tracks to John, it appeared that the song needed more lyrics, so Colin adjusted the lyrics to the way Hemmo was singing the song, so Hemmo could record it all over again, due to this process, John and Colin had to re-record their backing vocals as well.
When all vocal tracks were done, it appeared that the original drums, bass and guitars needed to be adjusted as well, so the song has now drums, bass and guitars played by Hemmo and Colin.
When everything was mixed, the orchestral instruments needed to be adjusted so it would sound in perfect harmony with all added instruments & vocals, then in the final stage John and Hemmo added some extra accent / additions to make it sound the way we all wanted it to be.

Euphoriqa - The Scientist (tribute to Coldplay)

We proudly present our (bands) first original song: "Carry Me Away"

Whilst watching the news one night we were horrified by the terrible events that had occurred in the streets of London and around the world.
We felt such feelings of sadness that such terrible things happen to innocent people the world over and this compelled us to write something about our thoughts and pain.
We wish we could just carry people away from any harm, suffering or pain as we would hope to be carried away if something bad was to happening to us.
All members of 'Euphoriqa' have worked really hard to bring this track together and we hope it may carry you away also.
