Volatile - For Solo Alto Saxophone (2021)

Arborio is a piece about growing up, making mistakes, learning to grieve, finding comfort in repetitive motion, sharpening knives, the accumulation of pitch, becoming soft, and cooking risotto. It was performed by the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra on 1st May 2025 in Silk Street Music Hall, conducted by Darren Bloom.

Arborio (2025)

The System discusses the state of trans+ healthcare in the NHS, through the philosophy of Stafford Beer. He describes the drive for institutions to reduce the number of possible outcomes, or variety, so that they can produce more consistent outcomes, even if they are consistently bad. It is his belief that when an institution reduces its variety in opposition to the needs of its clientele, then the institution is doomed to fail. The wave must crash upon the sand.
It was performed by singers from EXAUDI in a workshop at Milton Court Concert Hall on 13th January 2025.

Written for the final of the ORA Singers' Young Composer Competition.

TW; Rape/Sexual Assault

This piece was inspired by a twitter thread which contained quotes said from judges to victims in rape trials. All of the phrases heard at the start of the piece are genuine comments made to victims of rape. ‘What I was Wearing’ is a poem by Mary Simmerling which inspired the 2013 art installation ‘What were you wearing?’. The piece uses the words of this poem, read out over the top of sung music. The music represents the speaker’s emotions, to create a moving and thought-provoking piece of music which leaves the listener stunned.
