My second string quartet is a set of five thematically connected fantasies on scenes from the life of a freelancer.  The heroes, if not always the victors, of the gig economy, these figures live constantly in two worlds: one of unbridled imagination and another of relentless pavement-pounding.

Suspension Bridges: The freelancer travels between gigs on the East River ferry.  Enjoying the play of sunlight on the eddies of water, they remember an old photograph taken while the Brooklyn Bridge was still under construction, its two halves reaching out towards one another with audacity and optimism.
