Proper Motion, a production duo out of Boulder, CO keeps one foot planted in the past, and the other pointing forward, as contemporary beats blend effortlessly with throwback stylings.

Proper Motion will be playing the SOULS RISING stage at ARISE Music Festival, August 8-10 at Sunrise Valley Ranch in Loveland, CO. The stage is a joint between The Untz and the artist collective Souls In Action, of which Proper Motion counts itself a member.

Young Ben Lidsky, from the heart of it all in Denver, CO brings a new EP to the vaunted Gravitas Recordings label. The Flourish EP is five tracks of electro-soul, glitch-hop, and chillout beats with a thread of solid grooves and retro melodies tying it all together.

"Celestial Groove" sets the tone with easy bass and throwback samples. The liquid cool "Alone At Last" and "Place In My Head" are mature beyond Lidsky's 17 years, with a wild stew of different styles blending in triumphant runs. The bass is there in this collection of tunes, but it doesn't bash you over the head. The subtlety in this series is impressive.

This one is such an inspiring session from start to finish for so many reasons... hmm well it was the first time I did my show live from Rinse FM in London! It felt good to be back in the studio. We were fresh out of a sold out XOYO show from the night before w/ the announcement/debut of our latest signee @samgellaitry. Feeling overwhelmed. &#13;

Ta-ku and I hung out recently when he was in Los Angeles for a couple of days and were able to catch up on life, music, photography (shouts to Eric Coleman / Mochilla), eat tacos, sushi, chill with Esta, Carmack, Mike Gao and play music. I'll never forget this. Before we knew it Ta-ku did a 30 minute set and sat down with me to and talk about everything from his travels, latest business ventures, Artists Envy, Songs To Make Up To, his passion for Men's Grooming, Photography, and much more. Ta-ku is one of the realest and most down to earth people you'll ever meet, he's definitely family. &#13;

Jazzzz in ya bones!!! This song was written during my visit to New Orleans Jazz fest 2014.  One of my most inspiring trips/opportunities to share music thus far happened in May this year when "Soul Visions (Rising Appalachia + The Human Experience) were invited to play at the Sugar Mill with Thievery Corporation (live) and Galactic.  What an incredible opportunity to share the stage with such high level musicians.  Jazz fest BLEW MY MIND.  The city becomes completely inundated with music 24 hours a day.  New Orleans stole my heart.

I was staying at my friend Roc's house (Roc you are a LEGEND).  His house is incredibly inspiring (We recorded 2 of the songs from "Soul Visions" in a closet/bathroom at his home (and may I add that his Kitchen is one of the most magical creative zones EVER.  

One night I couldn't sleep.  I was so overwhelmed with inspiration from going to concerts 12 hours a day, that the music in my head would not turn off.  The only thing I could do was work on music.  That night, I wrote this song.  I also had the vision of recording some especially incredible musicians while I was in New Orleans, yet had unfortunately not found the write players yet.  The following morning, I played the new song for Roc and mentioned to him that I'd really love some guitar.  He said (in his lovely Kiwi accent), "I know this pretty rippin guitar player from this band Trombone Shorty" (if you don't know who they are, do yourself a favor and check them out).  The band happened to be in town playing Jazz Fest (they tour 200 shows a year lol).  Roc called Pete Murano (you are also a LEGEND)  and he was super into the idea of us having a session.  

The day I went over to meet him I was a bit nervous.  A lead guitarist from a huge band can often be "not so approachable", but Pete could not be any cooler, down to earth, and over all an absolutely chill guy (and beyond ripping guitar player).  I love working with you Pete and look forward to creating a lot more music (look for another song on this album coming out soon)

Fast forward a couple months, I email Eric Oberthaler  (eO) with some horn section ideas (Eric, you are also a LEGEND) and here we are with a new song (which makes me dance in pants, and sometimes without pants).
