Though the style differs, the title is an homage to Kraftwerk's "Trans-Europe Express", a pioneering and important electronic song from the album of the same name. Both compositions make notable use of electronic minimalism. "Trans-Lunar Express" introduces a more futuristic take on the concept.

Evan Rentz has played multiple instruments and used music software from a young age. He independently composes and produces every track from Hyper Wave. This set of skills lends itself to the creation of experimental and complex electronic music. He advocates a departure of the music industry from corporate record production and a focus toward independent artists. Hyper Wave represents a vision for the future of popular music to shift toward creative freedom and experimentation.

Hyper Wave's first album, Horizon, was released on March 25, 2020. A subsequent album, Flight, was released on July 7, 2021. A third album, Transit, is currently in progress.
