CSQ: Tell us a bit about your local techno scene. How has it shaped you as an artist?

Outerkult: The local landscape for the harder sub-genres of hard techno and industrial music is relatively new in Toronto, Canada. Over the past couple of years, techno has been gradually gaining traction, with notable figures such as Klangkuenstler, Shlomo, and Sara Landry making notable debuts and more frequent appearances in Toronto, helping also kick-off communities and prominence for the harder sub-genres. Given the novelty of industrial hardcore and hard techno in Toronto, I’ve encountered certain challenges in accessing niche-specific resources for guidance. However, this unique environment also presents opportunities for me to explore a broader spectrum of influences and draw inspiration from a wider range of sources, as there are fewer established artists in these genres here and less rigid genre expectations to adhere to.

CSQ: Would you like to share anything with the listeners about the set (e.g., did you face any challenges while producing it, anything you’d like them to know about the track selection)?

Outerkult: Industrial Hardcore and Industrial Hard Techno evolved noticeably with more defined and fuzed sound, particularly in recent times. The objective of my set was twofold: to highlight the diverse elements characterizing the evolution of hard industrial techno and hardcore music over the years, reflecting my production style, while also providing listeners with a high energy experience featuring some of the scene's most well-deserving and hard-hitting artists of today.

CSQ: How does the set reflect the development of your style and your DJing since you started?

Outerkult: In recent months, I've delved deeper into blending industrial techno and hardcore, a natural progression for me as a longtime hardcore enthusiast. This recorded set marks one of my initial forays into creatively exploring this fusion. It's been one of the most fun sets to prepare and perform so far in my career.

He's currently head alongside Nicola Virnicchi of DasKollektive Rec, he creates sounds and music based on raw, dark sounds and has industrial and metal influences. His work includes publications on big labels such as Insane Industry Recordings, Expel Your Demons, Carbone Records (with also in Beatport Top Hard Techno Charts of January), MOTZ, Flash Recordings, Blackout Collective as well as upcoming tracks on System and Derestrict. Fresh project from a young performer from North Ossetia - TSEU. (ex-project - TOMMY) The artist debuted with a new name at the largest techno event in Moscow, MONASTERIO FEST 2024, as part of the MYATMO team showcase at the ARMA club, which took place in the summer. Having rethought her approach to sound and positioning, Toma discovered a new path under the name TSEU.

Developing creativity on the dining scene, Toma has made his mark on iconic venues in Moscow and St. Petersburg: ARMA, RNDM, BLANK. Currently, she is working on her new name while continuing to perform at two dining venues, and her podcasts have already gained popularity in Amsterdam, Italy, Berlin, and Brazil. In addition, the performer holds several high-quality unreleased items in stock.
