"a year ago, today" is a double-single release from rosewither exploring deep lush soundscapes in the drone music genre.

This project was written during a time in my life when I thought I was going to be able to define the word home and family within Texas. At the time I pictured spending out the a large part of the rest of my days within the community I had within Austin and elsewhere within Texas. Then, one morning, I woke up to the news being spread by a local Dallas paper that the Texas DPS was going to start overturning gender markers on IDs.

I already knew with living there that the government hated us transsexuals but had some blind hope that they would, largely, leave us alone. Upon hearing this news, it was a sign for the times to come. I fortunately noticed the signs and got my partner and I out of there. We made that long drive from Austin, Texas, to Minneapolis, Minnesota in one go and is where all of the source material for "who are you to decide the foundation of which you build your statues upon" comes from. I had to leave so many people whom I still care for deeply there. Friends of mine from there have since fleed to other sanctuary states or cities in hopes they can be transsexual.

These two songs are dedicated entirely to what could have been and was. What my life could have been if the new-age nazis in Texas didn't declare war on its queer folks. If I had decided to stay within the south and risk everything. Some days, I think that wouldn't be so bad.
