Interstate 55 | The Spinzone #125

Last Sunday, I experienced an unforgettable event in downtown Los Angeles: Louie Vega's renowned NYC party, Flashback. Hosted by Marques Wyatt and DEEP Los Angeles, this wasn’t your typical DJ lineup—it was an epic, eight-hour set by Louie himself. A legend in soulful house music, Louie seamlessly delivered an immersive journey through classic tracks, rare grooves, and his own iconic repertoire.

Flashback lives up to its name by featuring timeless tracks, some so rare they remain Louie’s personal gems. Hearing these classics reignited my passion for Soulful House, inspiring me to revisit forgotten favorites and incorporate them into the radio show. I even recorded snippets to remember key tracks for future sets.

This week’s episode of the show is a heartfelt tribute to Louie’s performance, filled with tracks from that night, especially in the final hour, which fully embodies the Soulful House vibe. It all begins with Barbara Tucker’s stunning classic soul cover of a track you will recognize, setting the tone for an uplifting, positive experience.

The night captured the essence of House Music: love, unity, and endless energy from dedicated dancers. A huge thanks to Louie, Marques, and DEEP LA for creating such a magical event. Soulful house truly inspires and uplifts!

Hot To The Touch Episode 247 With MartinMax

My hour of Episode 155 was, once again, a bit of a tribute to geniuses that have sadly left us recently. After bidding farewell to Gwen McCrae and Roberta Flack last show, I did the same this time for the great Roy Ayers, Angie Stone and Yam Who? of Midnight Riot. I opened the show with his remix of my own track that came out on MR a couple of years back, and fitted in a few from him and Roy, and one from Angie too. Come on 2025 - stop it! 

Hour two was very special this time. I brought you a guest mix from a very talented producer who caught my ear late last year - Bralan Arias from Bogota, Colombia. His mix is almost all his own stuff, and almost all of it is unreleased. It’s an absolute treat - loads of his trademark jazzy house sounds, some cheeky samples, plenty of Rhodes, some acid… and things pick up a fair bit towards the end. Funkier Sounds Episode 166 - Even Funkier Two Hour Special (Final NDC Broadcast!)

Times are a’changing for my Funkier Sounds radio show - I’ve made the difficult decision to take it off NDC, its home for the last few years. It’s purely so I can be a bit more flexible with when I do it and the format - guest mixes have been a real pain recently, so now I’ve got the freedom to do one hour, or two, with or without a guest mix. Funkier Sounds Episode 167 (80s Boogie)

I kept things fairly moody for this one, with a mix of deep house and broken beat kinda vibes - it was fun flitting between 4/4 and those looser percussive vibes. Then things went a bit bumpy in the last half an hour or so, with a few US and UK garage flavaz just because I fancied it.

Just a one hour session this week as I slowly recover from being ill, but since it’s my first one in three weeks it felt like I had to do some sort of mix. Kept this one slow and slinky, around the 100BPM mark throughout, and managed to cover a good amount of ground in 60 minutes - with some P-Funk, some Hip Hop, some R&B and some sexy disco vibes.
