Dr. LaFlow has always impressed me since his days of collaborative work with Avant-Garde. He is able to take a sample and warp it many different ways around his dusty, strong drums. His beats do not stop a simple loop, as LaFlow will chop and screw a sample and surround it by accompanying vocal samples to tell a story.

He gave us an EP full of Future remixes, but that was only the beginning of who Dr. LaFlow takes on on the fourth installment. the beat stumbles on its own adventures warping in and out of separated snaps and additional sample flips. LaFlow remixes tracks like Kanye's "Get 'Em High" and 50 Cent's "Magic Stick," along with a slew of other artists' work like MF DOOM, Slim Thug, Jay Z, Wu Tang Clan, Danny Brown and more.

Dr. LaFlow is a beat warlock. The South Florida native is a master of conjuring potions and elixirs from haunted dusty records and channels them straight to cassette. His style is gritty, but polished. His aura is mysterious and unique, but it's meant to be studied and absorbed. 
Assorted Flavors Vol. 2 consists of 15 eerie adventures that are as spooky as they are enchanting. The first half contains instrumentals and the second half presents LaFlow's signature contrast of mid-2000's rap acapellas over film noir-esque soundscapes.

Shrimpnose ~ Dawn

If we take a Day to mean 'the pendulum,' swinging forth with dawn, back with dusk, only to begin anew with another fresh dawn just ahead, we've likewise stumbled upon a fair metaphor for a Life. 

Through the brevity of Minneapolis producer Shrimpnose's 11-minute Dawn, we get just a lick of this cycle. 

Dedicated to the memory of friend Donnie Lind, Shrimpnose seems, through a sturdy atmosphere of chunky kicks and grain-laced samples, to trace ever so economically the brief in-and-out of a human life. 

Beginning with the eeriness of dawn in all it's limitlessness, proceeding through to an accomplished and sleep-ready dusk, Shrimpnose ultimately takes us to 'back then,' a place not so nostalgic as it is truly alive; a place where donnie must surely be smiling at his own apprehension of an oft-forgotten truth: that dawn will come again, just as ripe with unimpeded opportunity now as it was then.
