A one-hour selection by @nicolas-jaar aired first on May 15th, 2021 as part of the Sonic Liberation Front on @radioalhara, an initiative for Palestine by a group of audio platforms and sound artists who came together to unify their sound for Palestine and protest against the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

Thank you for inviting me to be here today. 

These are difficult days and it is difficult to express the feelings that I have inside. 

We have seen the horrors of Israeli occupation. We have seen the hypocrisy of the European and American media. We have heard the silence of our peers. And we have felt the screams inside Al Aqsa, in Sheikh Jarrah, in Gaza, in Haifa, in Jaffa, in Lydda. But this is only news to those who don't know. 
In reality, this is nothing new. 

The past 2 weeks have been a microcosm for the past 20 years, the past 40 years years, the past 70 years. 

The Israeli government is a racist settler colonial project committed to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. The legacies of systemic violence, racism and dispossession shaped by colonialism must stop. 

Today this means standing up and signaling clearly our support, our solidarity and our love for Palestine. Complicity with Israeli war crimes is found in silence and we cannot tolerate silence. 

As I speak something else is happening in another part of the world that is also very close to my heart. Chileans are right now electing  155 citizens who will write a new constitution for the country. It will replace the constitution that has been in place since the years of the military dictatorship. This constitution will be the first anywhere in the world to be written by an equal number of men and women. The only reason this moment of hope is possible in Chile is because of the incredible social movements that rose up to tell truth to power, to tell the story of life in the face of death. 
The courage and determination of Chilean activists, writers, artists has been astounding. I am sure many of them are inspired and influenced by the courage of Palestinians living under occupation. 

These social movements are creating change, and the forces of Empire are having a difficult time trying to control this change. When we see Israel bombing the tower that houses AP and Al Jazeera in Gaza, we understand that this war is being waged on multiple fronts. Journalism is one of them. Art and music is also one. 

So thank you for this initiative Radio Alhara and Recordat. 

This mix is different from any mix I've ever played. 

I'm gonna play a mix I made for myself, never meant to be shared. It's the music I play to feel better, in some ways it's my own kind of therapy, it gives me hope that life can always shine in the dark."

Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this @ednamartinezdj . Made a mix with songs that say more than anything I could write really.....Going to play two songs I wrote a while ago, one which I performed live in January 2020 at the Museum of Memory & Human Rights in Santiago and another which was made shortly after, they're both influenced by what was taking place in Chile at the time which mirrors in some ways what we are seeing in Colombia now. As some of you may know, since the end of april in Colombia there have been more than 2,000 cases of police violence against protesters, 33 victims of eye injuries and more than 40 civilians killed by the police. Since the beginning of the year more than 60 rights defenders have been assasinated, and among them 20 were indigenous leaders. Since 2016, over 400 human rights defenders have been killed. In all this darkness, there may be some hope that the protests can create meaningful change. Last Sunday, Chileans elected a new group of citizens who will write a new constitution for the country. This was one of the core demands of the huge protests of 2019/2020.  It will be the first anywhere in the world to be written by an equal number of men and women and it will replace the constitution that has been in place since the years of the military dictatorship.  The only reason this moment of hope is possible in Chile is because of the incredible social movements that rose up to demand change. As I've said elsewhere, the courage and determination of Chilean students, activists, protesters, writers, artists has been astounding and they have/are shifted/shifting the political landscape and will continue to do so. In the past month I've heard stories of Colombian protesters taking cues from Chilean protesters and beautiful solidarity between Colombians and Palestinians also. We have so much to learn from each other. May this solidarity and interconnectedness bring us better days and in the meantime may music sustain us and nourish us. Words from the Artist @wearechambord: When the Flow Sessions team asked us to make a podcast of 3:33:33 secs, we accepted straight away! It’s quite unique to do a long podcast when all tracks have an importance and a special place in the set. The goal behind this journey was to create a glimpse of what a night with us might entail. She’s often rockin’ the dance floor, so having her on Bright Patterns is a special occasion—what a treat to hear her in this zone! “Good for early morning time, good for stretching, good for processing change, perhaps good for my dear friends in Slovenia who are about to have a baby this week, and music I would share with the humpback whales if I could share music with them…I went scuba diving in Hawaii in February and got to hear their nonstop songs carry through the water for 60 minutes. I felt like crying it was so beautiful.” Her inspiration is all-encompassing, and she’s a big reason why Bright Patterns exists.

Art piece: Mechan 9 

Mechan 9 is the newest creation from Tyler FuQua Creations.  It is a giant fallen metal robot that is half-buried in the ground.  Over thirty five feet in diameter and six feet tall at his heart chamber, Mechan 9 is shrouded in mystery!  Decode the strange text on his body to reveal the secrets of not only his past, but of the universe as well.  Mechan 9 was built by an amazing crew and with the help of a Burning Man art grant in 2016 where it made its debut.

3 QUESTIONS to LUIS ROSENBERG:

Q: Talking about your mix, your roots: how did these tracks have an impact on your later doings?

A: My father grew up in the 1960s and collected a lot of vinyls from this time. When I was young, he was often playing albums from Bob Dylan, Petty Smith, Frank Zappa, J.J. Cale etc. and translated the lyrics for me. I had to include at least one track of those artists because thats really where it all began. Following the tradition of my father I started to collect vinyls myself. In the beginning random things that had a nice cover and were pressed on vinyl and later on more hip hop and electronic stuff. I'm still listening to music from the 60s and 70s though and I guess this has some sort of an impact on my style. 

Q: Compared to the music you're now playing: would you still include one of these tracks in your current sets? 

A: The majority not, but some of them. When I prepared the set I found loads of cool tracks I have not listend to in ages. I'll definitely try to include them more often in future sets. 

Q: Which exciting Luis Rosenberg projects are coming this year?

A: I'm taking it a bit slower at the moment because I'm focusing on non-music related projects. However I am going to play at a couple of festivals and I'm especially looking forward to playing in Thailand for the first time later this year.
