i think the reason Varik/Ares is in EBHH is because he somehow got dragged out of the brandish universe or was sent to tge future. Judging by how Prickle says he just “showed up one day”. I could be misremembering tho.

These instructions seemed random. It wasn't clear where to apply them. Or at least, it was to me. But I’m stupid so forget that.

Long ago, in a small halloween special of a romhack, Varik from Brandish was uh... put in Earthbound i guess?
(also the main kids died sooo suck to be them hahaa)

The hack was called "Press the B Button, Stupid! Earthbound Halloween Hack"
This game is supposed to take place in an alternate universe of Earthbound where the four kids never returned from their quest to defeat Giygas. And, I guess, Varik/Ares from Brandish is there??? 
In the story of this game, Varik is asked to to find a monster that brutally murdered a girl's parents. During this search, he comes upon a laboratory in a burned down forest, inside which is the grieving Doctor Andonuts. 
Varik immediately realizes that Andonuts, despite not seeming to mean any harm, is in fact responsible for everything bad happening around him. The zombies, the  remnants, the amalgamates.
This scares the shit out of Andonuts, who begs Varik not to kill him before running away and climbing inside a machine.
When Varik goes over to the machine, it's implied Varik is able to do something different. But no matter which option you pick (there's a hidden one too that does nothing), Varik detsroys the machine and kills Andonuts.

The better ending to the game can be found if you press the B button.

This will cause Varik to enter Andonuts's Magicant.
After learning more about andonuts, eventually Varik reaches a place similar to giygas's lair. A scene similar to the Pokey pre-fight happens, but with a weird distorded Toby Fox horror blob. (think toby's concept art in general + flowey tv)

Varik, alongside the manifestations of the courage of Doctor Andonuts, fight the manifestation of the rage and the superego of Doctor Andonuts, eventually killing him.

The true good ending would have been to walk home in-game and stop playing. The game directly implies this immediately after you kill him in any route.

The song used for this fight was this. The original track was composed by Toby Fox, who went on to use this in a few bigger projects.
He now seems ashamed by PTBBS/EBHH (possibly jokingly), calling it a "bad romhack with swears," but still seems at proud of THIS song. Megalovania.

This AU unremittingly utilizes more unique swap choices than the traditional ones, for instance: the Holidays swap with the Dreemurrs, the ghosts swap with the skeletons, angel swaps with knight, barrier swaps with fountain, etc...
