On A Symbol For Disguise (GEN048), @ububoi & @rhunterrrr join hands to craft a high saturation, high density, high tension collection of collaborative tracks. Texturally, the sound is raspy, heavy hitting, synthetic yet constantly fluid, pushed or shaped into high harmonic regions, giving the sound a full, shimmering, metallic tint. The blasting, bouncy, crispy, sometimes even shredding percussive approach suggests an intense but elastic approach, manifesting in constantly morphing highly syncopated rhythmical forms. With detuned synthetic harp arpeggios, grimy, chromatic melodies and gnarly, glassy pads, the approach here is sometimes reminiscent of that lost era where home listening music, dance music and computer music formed an uncertain and temporary alliance. The notion of a confrontation is further underlined by the incidental appearance of a denatured voice in full range: whispering, declaring, demanding, wailing - looking the listener in the eye.

Bristol’s Sarahsson is a force to behold. A composer, producer, performance artist and DJ, her intricate work is a visceral expression of divine queerness and her experience with synaesthesia.

Originally hailing from Exeter, when she moved to London she discovered a queer community that hadn’t been present in her hometown and so began to explore the rejection of genres and the dissolution of gender. Drained by the male dominance in electronic music, Sarahsson’s first forays into more experimental sounds and parties helped direct her own personal journey—exploring the feminine, synaesthesia and blurring the lines between binaries.

Inspired as much by the natural world as she is by gore and harsh noise, Sarahsson fuses elements of classical music with metal, experimental electronics and hardcore. Her debut LP The Horgenaith explores themes which Sarahsson equates with queerness: “Transmutation, embodying contradicting parts of oneself,” she says. “Finding familiarity in difference is a lot of what queerness is about for me”. A multi-dimensional commentary on “femininity's cultural proximity throughout history to nature and rediscovering the body as a landscape, its constant state of flux and transience.”

Joining label alumni AYA, Kai Whiston, Emily Glass and more, Sarahsson’s signing to Illegal Data is a testament to her unique sonic offering and her visually arresting live performance, which involves classical and contemporary instrumentation and various audio interfaces.

With a grant from Saffron Records she also spent time at a woodwork studio building her own Daxophone, a wildly curious bowed instrument, and rejected pre-made samples, choosing to create her own instead. Field recordings of marsh reeds and whispers become percussion atop the blasting sound of crushing waste removal machines.

A truly special voice in the current climate of electronic music, Sarahsson brings together her unique ear for melody, rich textural harmony and dramatic narratives to achieve something genuinely awe inspiring and timeless on her debut LP. Creating a piece of work so honest and nurturing yet accessible and open, it raises open questions rather than dishing out rigid statements.

On her emotionally charged sound Sarahsson says: “I'm trying to reach a very specific feeling. One tiny point in the middle of a nuclear explosion where everything happens all at once, bittersweet and fierce, a moment when opposites collide into one. The nexus point.”

Having already performed in parts of the UK and Europe with the likes of Lyra Pramuk, Oklou, Swan Meat etc. and as part of a SOPHIE tribute show for Club Quarantine in 2021, Sarahsson now has her sights set on bringing her album to a live setting across Europe and the rest of the world.

'Syrtis' is a deceptive slow-burner that halfway through the track reassembles itself in double-time through hyperactive breaks and disjointed rhythms.

His work is a continuous exploration of the balance between light and darkness, creating a unique and captivating sound that draws listeners in.

Athens based duo Ice_Eyes formed in 2012. They started producing leftfield electronic music forms and experimenting with modern club territories, techniques, and atmospheres. Since 2022, Ice_Eyes has become a solo project by Anastasios Tatsis.

Their music has been remixed/reformed from emblematic artists like ZULI, Renick Bell, Gallen Tipton, ABADIR to mention a few, while their material is featured frequently in DJ sets/Radio shows by Lee Gamble, ZULI, HELM, Szare, Endgame, Graham Dunning, Bapari, Lawson Benn (Public Order), Meuko Meuko and more.

Currently Ice_Eyes hosts a monthly show on Movement Radio Athens, while during the last years the Greek producer has recorded many shows on NTS, Threads Radio, Rinse France, Noods Radio, Ma3azef Radio (Tunis, Cairo), HKCR amongst others.

Exhalation is the debut compilation of ÖÖÖ, which embodies the label's main theme of "Primitive Future". The concept captures the essence of a universal cycle that encompasses physical and spiritual elements for generating life, intelligence, and emotion. It speaks to the movement of life forms in all their subtlety or grandeur, from humans, creatures to planets, from unknown beings to unpredictable happenings. Exhalation is rooted in the origin of natural orders and chaos since time immemorial.

Participated artists are crossing different continents of the earth - SÁCCEA (@sacce4), Aestum (@aestum), e6c41 (@e6c41), Iva Peralta (@ivaperalta) Ylateau (@ylateau), Anh Phi (@anh_phi), Locre (@locr3), Ice_Eyes (@ice_eyes), Azelsgöattii (@goattii), Toby Davis (@toby_davis), Klusā Daba (@klusa_daba).

The artists developed their envision of the theme through different sonic landscapes - from futural energy paradise, turbulent apocalypse earth cracks, cult incantation from posthuman tribes, the nirvana of subconscious struggles, to oracle lights and dreamlike chants that heal wounds... Any possibilities are expected as artists will tell a consistent story of Exhalation together with their unique perspectives.
