DAY 7: Redemption song is a song about slavery, captivity and racism which unfortunately is universal theme tied to my Congolese heritage, Belgium's history and even the past of the country I am in right now. Bob Marley wrote this song in 1979 when the stage of his cancer to the toe was quite advanced and he was in a lot of pain. It is the final song of the 1980 "Uprising" album. I like it because it is a bit "out of character" for Bob Marley as it doesn't feature the traditional Reggae rhythm and is just him solo with an acoustic guitar ,yet this is one of his greatest master pieces. This one goes to Yannick Hausman for introducing me to the song and welcoming me into his home in a period where for the first time at 15 years old I was dealing with a friend's death (and a closer friend to him). I think many of us from Jodoigne are tied by those times in our youth when some of us left too fast. To me Redemption Song is about acknowledging what you have lost, yet maintaining hope. Enjoy
