An early birth defect left me with a deviated septum, which means I can't help touching my nose, at every occasion - it makes people lose respect for me I'm sure, despite my obvious attractiveness, because they feel like they're always talking to a snivelling, asthmatic dog. The consequences of this defect I used to beat myself up about, until I was thrown into a new kind of crowd - the irritating rubbing, tapping of the nostril became a firm and proud press, the telltale signs of a coke addiction I didn't really care to hide. Somehow it's classier, but I never could bring myself to touch the stuff.
