Ok, this did not turn out as I originally thought it would. My initial idea today was to make something that sounded like Infected Mushroom. Instead it turned into EBM about coffee and not adding strange things to coffee.

Wednesday 2015-11-18 - Pre-Thursday

So, I wanted to turn the melody I came up with yesterday into something resembling Jean Michel Jarre's stuff.

The only presets used are the bass and drum kit, the rest of the sounds I tweaked from Polysynth.

So, I wanted to do something sounding like Frontline Assembly today, but I spent far too much time editing samples. So, this is something in the middle. A "might have been" FLA bass and lot's of samples from Ash vs Evil Dead.

(That's  a brilliant series that is true to the original, watch it!)

Friday 2015-11-20

So, this track isn't entirely made today. I've mostly tweaked some effects and such. I was very tired after staying until very late at c-base with yesterday's track (and socializing).

Note: Note receiver, LFO mod and Tool are very useful in Bitwig...

Saturday 2015-11-21 - Arpeggiators

This is a track that I've been working on together with my now ex-colleague Irina. This evening we've rearranged some things and decided on a melody. Next part will be coming up with lyrics and recording them.

Sunday 2015-11-22 - Continued project, pre-vocals stage

Today I had a really hard time getting started. First I wanted to do something similar to Kraftwerk, but then I dropped that and thought I would do something similar to And One.

And then it got derailed into this. What do you call this genre?

Monday 2015-11-23

Today I started looking through Sample Pack 1 by Monkey Banana. It was a sample pack I was given when I attended a Bitwig event. It had a bunch of good samples for making industrial music, so I went for it.

But you can definitely create a better bassline for it and maybe add some distorted lyrics.

Tuesday 2015-11-24 - Frontline Assembly day

This is a bunch of clips that are playing randomly within their own tracks and fed through an effect chain called "deep freeze". Pretty nifty.

Oh, and in the end it's less random since I'm turning tracks off one by one.

Wednesday 2015-11-25 - randomness

I started something earlier, but another person at c-base said it sounded a little bit too cute. As if it was a tune for a happy little village. Then he asked me to burn the village down.

Well, this is the result. I still think the village will survive.

Absent friends

So, this is the result of our group hackweRk during the Zalando hackweek December 2015.

All sounds and vocals were recorded using a Tascam DR-05. All instruments are recorded from around the office...

We all had a quite fun week.

HackweRk - Another post-it on the wall

A test of the sso sample pack, qtractor and some of the TAL plugins. Mostly a learning experience. And yes, I know the levels are all wrong and that it sounds distorted.

Oh, the background sound is a stretched out (using paulstretch) recording from walking through the turnstiles at the Hornstull subway station...

Saturday 2018-10-20 - Dreading the surge, featuring Mattias Bååth

This is actually an older unpublished track from an event called "Hack a song" where you had to make eight tracks in a day. The reason why I'm posting this is because of a software bug that made all of my cut markers disappear in 30 minutes of recorded audio.

So, my original idea will have to be worked on tomorrow. Now I'm just too tired to start with anything. Starting again with the cutting of 30 minutes of audio at 22:45? Nah, I don't think so...

The violin was recorded into Bitwig and edited. Only internal effects used.

All environmental sounds were recorded while walking around with a Tascam DR-05. The sounds include:
- Subway noises
- S-Bahn and announcement at Hackescher Markt
- Scaring a large flock of pigeons next to Alexanderplatz
- Ambulances at Hermannplatz
- Walking from Alexanderplatz U-Bahn to S-Bahn
- People outside a café
- Traffic at Karl-Marx-Straße

Thursday 2018-10-25 - A walk through Berlin

So, what happens when you're sleeping to heavily to survive?

Quite a heavy sleeper:

In 1912 I went on this ship for a new life in the west
While sleeping there was a loud crunching metallic noise
I could hear people screaming outside in the corridor
And later water flowed into the cabin

I mean
It's more or less impossible to wake me up
Even pouring water on me won't work
Ask friends, they've tried it
 
I was a bit worried
But my eyes didn't open

In 1937 I was working on this massive airship
My shift ended a few hours before arrival
From somewhere there was a loud roaring noise
You could hear the hull croaking and stabilizing wires snapping

It's quite of a job to wake me up
Even piles of ice on me won't work

I was a bit worried
But my eyes didn't open
 
In 79 there was a mess of a night
Copious amounts of wine and gladiator games
I could recognize a hint of sulfur in the air
There were sounds of people running and screaming
