As well as being a good friend of ours here at Excentric Muzik, Arjun is also one of India’s most promising talents and rising stars. For those unacquainted with his name, Arjun’s career began with him winning the New Dehli DMC DJ Championship at just 20 years of age. Later he became one third of the “Jalebee Cartel“ (one of the biggest live EDM acts in India), on top of their prestigious status the forward thinking band are credited with being the first to release an album on USB in India and also the first to stream a gig live on the internet. More recently his solo “Do D Do EP” on our Tribal Rage label back in January was supremely received, with Carl Cox, Sebastian Leger and Karotte all heavily supporting the tracks. And still fresh in the memory is last month’s highly rated remix of Fergie’s album track “Come With Me”, which brings us straight to this killer double header...

Luigi Madonna supplies the first release of 2012 for Fergie’s Excentric Muzik label, which as it approaches it’s fifth birthday continues to impress as both an outlay for Fergie’s original productions and a platform for innovative like-minded artists from around the world. Release number forty sees Luigi make his debut on the label, fitting perfectly into the ethos of forward thinking and cutting edge House, Techno and Electronica, designed for the dance-floor. 

2011 was a great year for Luigi, kick started with an appearance on a Drumcode release dedicated to Italian producers from the Napoli region, followed by two noteworthy releases on Material. But it was the “Reset / Collusion” double header on Rekluse that really caused a stir, with a list of true A-grade support including Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Slam, Miss Kittin, Joseph Capriati, Gregor Tresher and Alan Fitzpatrick. “Reset” in particular was surely one of the stand-out Techno tracks of the summer. A return to Rekluse with two hard hitting remixes of Lumik “I Feel The Sound” continued the momentum and he rounded off 2011 in style by dropping a five track EP on the ever-influential Plus 8. 

“Through The Tunnel” contains three slamming cuts of Luigi’s idiosyncratic yet contemporary sound. At times stripped back, his precise and tightly constructed loops are always extremely rhythmic and hypnotising but can always be relied upon to deliver a heavy impact. “Chocol8” leads the way, an atmospheric siren-led thriller cranks things up with an intensely dramatic break for maximum effect. The dark and driving “Crash” is propelled along by a deadly off-beat bass-line and is a serious heads down moment on the EP, fuelled by an effortless flow of energy. “Black Tunnel” completes the package with an echoey trip through finely crafted percussion and (what feels like) cavernous spaces, lit up by rave infused rises and an irresistible groove.

Fergie’s Excentric Muzik has always been a platform for supporting new talent with Reset Robot, Spektre, Psycatron and Gary Beck all receiving key exposure from remixing for the label early in their careers. Like these artists before him, Arjun is definitely someone we believe must be heard and we are proud to have been the home for some of his finest productions to date. From frenetic House grooves such as his 2011 Tribal Rage thriller “Maltese Junction” to full-on Techno like the A side of his previous Excentric Muzik release “Drohnen”, he can certainly be relied upon to deliver dance-floor bombs on demand. And when he’s not in the studio or DJ booth he’s spreading the House and Techno word across India, via his DJ and production workshops and his own label “MakTub Music”.

“Almost Home” leans towards the Techno side of things with an addictive as hell loop and a powerful rolling bass-line that will tear the place apart. It’s seven genre blurring minutes of what Arjun does best; an intense roller-coaster with a hypnotic feel, punctuated by a rhythmic vocal snippet and driven along by the tantalising filtering of the prominent layers of low end, with plenty of tripped out moments in between. 

The remix sees a new face for Excentric land on the label; Bosnian (but London based) knob-twiddler Sinisa Tamamovic. His bass heavy loops have been released on highly respected labels Sci+Tec, 1605, Form, Yoshitoshi, Agile and Phobiq as well as his own Night Life records and his remix of “Almost Home” shows just why so many have been enthralled by his sound. Sinisa takes on the original head-on and injects it with a large dose of his own special kind of bass. His rework is built around a heavy, driving groove that has a certain grittiness about it as it grinds along with an almost vintage Techno vibe. As we have come to expect from him, he precisely deconstructs then reconstructs the break for the ultimate in effectiveness and as the bass effortlessly comes back in there is a feeling that the whole affair needs to be repeated and one minute later it is, with immensely powerful effects.

2012 has been another big year for Luigi with noteworthy appearances on Drumcode, MB Elektronics, AnalyticTrail and Octopus Recordings (collaborating with Sian) as well as Excentric Muzik. This is Luigi’s fourth outing with us following his massive “Through The Tunnel” EP, his two killer remixes of “Lumik - I Feel The Sound” for Rekluse and of course his 2011 Rekluse double A sider “Reset / Collusion”. For the uninitiated, the LM sound is a perfect blend of smooth stripped-down beats and rhythmic razor-sharp percussion. His rolling and energetic tracks meet somewhere between seriously hypnotic and downright heavy and are certainly an accurate pointer to where the sound of the modern underground Techno scene currently lies. 

“In The Box” begins with “Magic Box” which rolls along with a constant flow of energy and an equal balance of swing-full groove and drive, complete with a chaotic break designed to cause maximum impact when the infectious loop finally returns. “City Liner” takes a more serious tone with an urgent feel to the pressing groove. The track relentlessly builds as it grows, peaking with what seems like a ball of fire. The siren led “La Guernica” marches along intensely with a machine-like grind, fuelled by a precise and intricate arrangement that is characteristic of Luigi’s extremely high standard of production. The original mixes are rounded off with the impressive “Gladiator” which showcases a different side to Luigi as he fuses together a hint of dub ambience with a dream-like melody to create a futuristic, dystopian vibe.

After Luigi Madonna’s massive “In the Box” EP in December, Fergie’s Excentric Muzik label begins 2013 with an explosive four track release from Jason Fernandes, which includes a killer collaboration with The Advent.

London-based UK artist Jason Fernandes (accompanied by The Advent) supplies Excentric Muzik’s first release of 2013. Jason returns to the label after making his debut in June with a well received remix of Fergie’s “Rockin Muzik”, supported by Kaiserdisco, Nicole Moudaber, Karotte, Tom Findlay, Jon Gurd and Patrick Siech amongst others. Having previously released on key labels throughout 2011 such as Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Mauro Picotto’s Alchemy, Tom Hades’ Rhythm Convert(ed) and Sasha Carassi’s Phobiq, 2012 saw Jason take it to the next level with the release of his debut album “Forget Expectation” and the launch of his new “Vacant” alias. 

He is joined on the on the title track of the EP by his regular collaboration partner The Advent (aka Cisco Ferreira), an artist with a rich and illustrious past that certainly deserves much more than a brief summary in a press release to do it justice. However what we can say here is that with his present day productions, live sets and the operation of his Kombination Research label (not to mention his work with Industrialyzer) he continues to push the boundaries of Techno, with expertise. 

The “Through The Looking Glass EP” is comprised of four dark and hypnotic Techno cuts for the late-night hours. Title track “Through The Looking Glass” is an intense work-out, a track full of serious groove and energy that just doesn’t know when to stop. “Mind, Body & Soul” effortlessly grinds along on an equally boundless journey with an uncompromising and atmospheric vibe contained within. The relentless “Guess” carefully builds throughout whilst a powerful all-conquering groove takes control and refuses to let go. The EP is rounded off with the deep and dubby (but no less immense) “Troublemaker”.

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting DJs of today’s Bulgarian electronic scene, in a short space of time she has relentlessly carved out an impressive reputation as a genuine rising star with an abundance of talent and raw appeal. Her unique brand of underground dance music is as cutting edge as it is seductive, an intricate and hypnotic blend of precise micro grooves, stripped-back beats and razor sharp Techno, full of energy. The last 12 months have seen her really make a name for herself, not just in her native Bulgaria but across the world, with performances in London, Miami and Las Vegas all being particular highlights. She also recently provided a guest mix for the legendary Carl Cox and his “Global” radio show. 

“5th Dimension” is a dark and moody trip through a hypnotic world of pitched-down vocals and atmospheric effects. Through the darkness a killer groove is maintained, delicately building the tension before dramatically deconstructing down to a minimal structure, for maximum effect. 

For the remix, Excentric Muzik heads to France and recruits Citizen Kain (aka Bruno Demoeugeot), a prolific Techno producer with appearances on labels such as BluFin, MBF, Great Stuff, Phobiq, Trapez, Agile and Regular to his name as well as his own Neverending label. His take on “5th Dimension” adds an injection of bass and a dash of French electronica, replacing some of the darkness of the original with his own brand of colour whilst also supplying a subtle hint of suspense and mystery to the remix.
