Excessus Records is delighted to introduce its very first production, Harmony Variation I. This album brings together 15 talented and immerses us in the captivating sounds of Darkprog and Darkforest, with a variety of evolving atmospheres.

"Harmony Variation I" is the first installment in a series of three VA compilations, which will be released successively. This series explores various subgenres of Psytrance (including Darkprog, Darkforest, Darkpsy, Dark Hitech, Psycore) and Tek, with a dark theme as the common thread.

These albums are distinguished by their musical variation and freedom of composition, creating a unique work of art. Through the diversity of styles, we hope that each album will awaken curiosity, inspire discovery, and encourage an open-minded approach among listeners, thus enriching their musical experience.

This EP explores deep and shadowy soundscapes. From the very first track, it establishes an atmosphere that seems to emerge from the very depths of the mountain range, as if one were exploring a mist-covered landscape where ancient trees whisper their secrets.

The reverberant atmospheres and hypnotic synthesizers weave melodies that evoke the echo of a cold wind sweeping through forgotten canyons. The percussion rumbles like the footsteps of someone crossing rocky terrain, lost in the vastness of a land where the boundaries between the world of the living and the dead fade away. It is an immersive experience that transports the listener to a place full of mysticism and legend.

Excessus Records, an independent label based in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, was launched in March 2024. It operates in the fields of music production, artist booking, and event organization. The label specializes in two distinct styles of electronic music, with several subgenres for each:

-> Psytrance: Darkprog, Darkforest, Darkpsy, Dark HiTech, Psycore
-> Tek: Mentalcore, Tribecore, Acidcore

The common theme and main dynamic of the label lie in the Dark aesthetic and the fusion between these two musical universes. Our goal is to promote artists and projects in relatively unknown or underrated music styles in Switzerland. Although addressing different audiences, these two styles share many commonalities.

As an event organizer for years, this label does not aim for fame or profit. Its primary goal is to share with the public the deep passion it has for music.

Some subgenres of Psytrance, such as Darkpsy or Psycore, can be perceived as introspective, dark, and sometimes heavy. For some, these styles might even seem more like a confrontation with their own consciousness rather than a musical experience to fully enjoy. However, Excessus Records seeks to convey the idea that each musical project tells a story, and one must understand this story to truly appreciate and love the music.

The label also strives to promote a vision of music that is not necessarily linked to drug use or a particular mindset, but rather to an open-mindedness and a careful selection of projects suited to each listener. By emphasizing these values and offering a varied and thoughtful selection of music, Excessus Records hopes to provide a rewarding musical experience to its audience, creating moments of authentic connection between the music and those who listen to it, while encouraging the exploration and discovery of new sonic horizons.
