My first instalment of 2022. I'd like to present my track 'Halfway', exploring an obscure landscape of snappy drum-work, middle-eastern vocals, and growling wavetable basses.

To celebrate 10 years since his first official release, EXE Last boss Gore Tech returns to his imprint to release 'Nemesystem' The follow-up to his 2019 'Geist Fibre' album these six cold-metal wave-ware slabs of sonic mastery push at the outer limits of dance floor acceptability drenched in the usual cyberpunk thematics.

Nemesystem is another example of Gore Tech fusing acute sound design with UK dancehall sensibilities. The producer has even recorded vocal passages for the track 'Datamosh' as well as his trademark use of granular hip-hop accapella's welded into drum and bass on the tracks 'Laying Waste' and 'Dread Seeker'.

The EP is presented with an outstanding remix of 'A Halo of Data' by fellow EXE Artist and Portugal's drum and bass excellence Crawler.

For over a decade, Mako has been a distinctive presence, both as an individual and through his music, a talent we’ve proudly showcased at Metalheadz.

This September, we are honoured to release his third album on the label, and his second solo endeavour, which serves as a seamless continuation of his earlier work. His 2020 album, ‘Oeuvre’, represented years of dedication and refined production, solidifying Mako's esteemed place within the Metalheadz family.

Now, four years later, we’re thrilled to present ‘Oeuvre – Part 2’. This 12-track album is a celebration of Mako’s deep passion for music, while also reflecting his sometimes disillusioned views on a modern era that often seems to pass us by. In a world where individuality can struggle to shine amidst an overwhelming flood of content, Mako’s superior production stands out as a beacon, demanding not just recognition, but active listening.

Mako’s commitment to his musical community is evident throughout the album, with contributions from long-time collaborators Fields, Hydro, Villem, and Mikal, each bringing their unique expertise to the project. The album also features a special collaboration with the late Marcus Intalex, a friendship that blossomed in the years before Marcus’ untimely passing and one that continues to bear fruit.

Diving into the heart of the album reveals Mako’s charm as a producer: from the captivating vocals in ‘Feed You’, the sleek homage to techstep in "Suspension’, to the pure dancefloor energy of ‘Direct Source’, a track long favoured by Goldie. As expected, Mako also delivers deeper, more contemplative pieces like the album’s opener ‘True Expression’ and the graceful melodies of ‘Overshare’.

The long-awaited debut EP from Thread Weaponry is finally here, following their initial release: a remix of ‘Get Outta Ma House’ by Manchester’s Cosmic titan's Henge which featuring prominently on the 8 track, 12” release entitled ExoKosm Remixed alongside the likes of giants: 808 State and RRRitalin. 

Astronomicon features three anxiety-inducing slabs of heavy bass-weight and groove aimed squarely at the dance floor. With sounds associated with 00s Dubstep, UKG and a healthy injection of cosmic horror themes, these tracks can be described as ‘dreadstep’’ as a whole departure from what we’ve come to expect in the realm of 130 / 140 bpm British electronic dance music. 

With the combined production powers of Mercy System and Gore Tech fondly remembering and almost reimagining the earlier days of UK dubstep. The Astronomicon EP can also be interpreted as a love letter to the short-lived time in British clubbing during the 00s before it’s export to the US.

With this in mind, the duo had Dubstep All-star: Reso come in to do the mastering (Tracks: Skulduggery, Nosferatu) and the keen ear and talent of Aaron Spectre to complete the EP with mastering the single for the EP ‘Star Beast’.

Manchester’s Quantum Mechanix are a drum & bass duo dedicated to merging the raw spirit of classic tech-step with the precision and weight of modern production. With a deep respect for the foundations laid in the late 90s and early 2000s, their sound takes inspiration from the sharp drums, and sub-heavy pressure of that era — but reimagined through today’s sonic lens.

Their raw, stripped back sound resonates throughout this EP, creating originality in a space that is often overloaded with replicas and sound-a-likes. The Soul Deep stalwart brings his signature sound back to the imprint in impressive fashion.  The Escape EP puts Dash's outstanding production skills on full display, as he has crafted 5 tracks that must be played on the dancefloor.  His style draws from original Jungle sounds from the '90's, blending the classic sounds with modern elements, creating infectious grooves that make you want to move.  He works out some classic Liquid vibes on “Escape,” blending heavy drums, slamming 808 bass sounds, jazzy horns, and slamming percussion.  “Wild Style,” is up next and takes a heavier approach, utilizing some edgier and more modern sounds to the mix.
