Chapel Dedication Eucharist 2020

'O Tu Illustrata' is the first of 'Three Motets on Texts by Hildegard von Bingen' by Caitlin Harrison, written in February 2020. 

The piece was scheduled to be premiered in May 2020 at The Queen's College Chapel, Oxford, but was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. 

This recording is workshopped by members of Exeter College Chapel Choir, Oxford.

O Tu Illustrata - WORKSHOP

'The Flower' by Caitlin Harrison sets the first and final verses of George Herbert's poem of the same name. The piece is performed by the Ex Corde Vocal Ensemble as part of the NCEM Young Composers Competition final 2020 (upper category).

Christmas Carol Service

Thank you for joining us for this organ recital, given by Christopher Holman, Parry Wood Organ Scholar of Exeter College, Oxford.

Today's programme is dedicated to the memory of those who have died in the COVID-19 pandemic around the world. Many of the works are based on chorales — German Lutheran hymns. In each, the poets lament human frailty, loss, and the need to trust in God in the worst of times. Many were composed during times of great tribulation — of war, famine, and disease — yet they share the hope that the future will be brighter, and that, despite the great challenges we face in dark times, we will one day find peace in our lives.

Organ Recital in Memory of COVID-19 Victims

The Choir of Exeter College at the University of Oxford consists of 24 singers. Originally established as a choral foundation of men and boys, the Choir was re-founded in 1995 as a mixed voice ensemble, and since has established itself as one of the leading student ensembles in the United Kingdom.

The Choir has collaborated with the Oxford Philharmonia, The Oxford Lieder Festival, the Oxford Bach Soloists, and The Brandenburg Festival in London, and maintains an active schedule of concerts, international tours, and recordings. In 2021 the Choir was featured as part of the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site's multimedia project 'Spin a Tale' with Constella OperaBallet. The Choir is also a regular guest at major cathedrals in the UK, having most recently sung at Westminster Abbey, with appearances scheduled at St Paul's Cathedral in London, and Winchester and Hereford Cathedrals. The Choir has also been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4, and episodes of 'Inspector Morse' and 'Endeavour'.
