"Sifting between intermeshing layers forming the dimness, a thin vapour coils in anti-gravity, afloat on the invisible; the hardest shadows thronged at sight’s limits haze, dilute, transmogrify into a thickening serpentine grey. Tension twists and contorts; Dark un-limits inverse fade to shock-bright emotions unclear, unreadable, too much — do the same boundaries remain as before? “Were the lines ever this solid?!”, disappearing into oblivion.

Unprying full body lock, the stark emptiness unravels, unthreading whisps shredded ragged ripped, , , , off off. until the marks return again, traces finding snowblind eyes unsearching. The vapour dissipates into a stable black, first partial, then obsidian; resolute, unreachable. A faint shimmer passes the unbreakable surface before all sighs apart, into pieces."

Oblaka - Ashes to Blossom

Ladislav Zensor (Oblaka, Exhausted Modern) returns to YUKU with S.O.O.S | Shores of Old Sentiments, a deeply personal journey through memory and time. Following his previous EP, Petrichor Memories, and his 2022 debut album, HACE, this record is both a continuation and a return. While Petrichor Memories reflects childhood moments in a city housing estate, S.O.O.S. flows into the Czech countryside.

The album takes its name from SOOS, a volcanic region in western Bohemia. Once alive with bubbling streams and the sharp scent of sulfur, it now stands largely still, a fitting parallel to the shifting textures and disintegrating structures within these tracks. Flickering synths, arrhythmic percussion, and echoes of the past weave together, blurring the edges of time and place.

Closing the album are two special collaborations: Baryt with Moroccan sound designer Disektor and Temporal Echoes with Egyptian/Prague-based multidisciplinary artist Qow.

"L.Z. (Ladislav Zensor): I grew up on the outskirts of Prague, surrounded by concrete tower blocks; we call them "paneláky." The deep '90s marked the liberation of the country and an awakening from communist lethargy. Enveloped by socialist art, which, in pre-revolutionary times, was allocated 4% of the budget for all construction projects.

My latest moniker, Oblaka, emotionally takes me back to the time I began exploring electronic music and shaping my taste. They say that cultural cycles come around every 20 years, and these days, I feel like I'm living in 2001 again. Thanks to the internet, globalization, and advanced technology, we’re witnessing a blending of genres, techniques, and approaches.

I enjoy this current musical merging, and after years of focusing on a specific sound, Oblaka gives me the freedom to experiment more with polyrhythms, deconstructing samples, and overall sound design. "Petrichor Memories" is a recollection of the smell of fresh rain falling on the parched concrete of an urban housing estate."

OBL4KA - Koshilella

Hello world, before my next album is released sometime next year, I've put together a collection of tracks that were either made for theater and cinema purposes or were some experiments. I reworked and rearranged them for this mini album, expressing the sound I've been into lately. It's the last Bandcamp Friday of this year, you know what it means.

Pulled up this mix from my archive purely for sentimental purposes, somehow, I keep getting back to this era, and it has been long enough to retrospect. The cover pic is a screenshot from a rare video from the OSN party (Spytovice, Czechia 2001), probably the only evidence of teenage me from all these years.

We have been witnessing genocide in Palestine for more than a year, and since October 1st, 2024, Israel has invaded Lebanon, defying any moral logic. Our community in Prague has been organizing and spreading awareness in a highly Zionist Czech society for many months. Transmission for Lebanon is a collective effort to take a stance and support the cause of Lebanese sovereignty and anti-colonial struggle.

All proceeds from this album will be donated to the Lebanese Red Cross, Beirut Synth Center (who are in direct contact with local shelters in Lebanon and providing resources to the displaced), and Secours Populaire.

Our effort is to support the resistance and stand against the suffering of the Lebanese people. We believe in anti-colonialism and the freedom of the Global South from Western imperialism. 🇱🇧

I made this track purely for fun, inspired by an event that took place in 1994. At that time, the relatively newly liberated Czech Republic became a stopover for the legendary British sound system Spiral Tribe on their way to the Eastern Bloc. A meadow near the village of Hostomice was chosen for the very first event of what later became the massively popular CzechTek Teknival. Several hundred people participated, witnessing robotic Mad Max-style sculptures created by Mutoid Waste, and an actual abandoned fighter jet, a remnant of the Cold War, brought all the way from East Germany. For many of them, it changed their entire lives and influenced later generations, including myself.

For the track, I tried to capture memories and emotions from the times I was a regular visitor. We all have formative moments that shape our taste forever. A certain type of sound and emotion has lived with me ever since, and I’m always looking for it in music. Hope you dig it.
