PODCAST 087 - BENZA // @benza995

Nacido en Bruselas, pero criado y afincado en Madrid, BENZA es un DJ/productor emergente de 28 años que se caracteriza por un sonido crudo y marcadamente rítmico. Firme defensor del "menos es más", apuesta por la calidad frente a la cantidad y por un enfoque minimalista en sus producciones y sets, decantándose por tracks efectivos que cumplan una única función, aportar movimiento a la pista de baile. 
Tras un tiempo desarrollando su propia visión musical, las primeras producciones de BENZA vieron finalmente la luz a finales de 2023 a través del podcast que realizó para el sello K92 Records, consistente en un set donde solo se incluían sus producciones propias nunca antes publicadas.
Poco tiempo después realizó su primera publicación a través de un EP en solitario de la mano de K92 Records al que le han seguido destacadas apariciones en VA´s de sellos como Beluga, Secta Collective o RI7MO. Sus producciones cuentan con el apoyo de destacados artistas como MARRON, Alarico, JKS, Grace Dahl, Lobster, Justine Perry o Radical Softness y se espera de este 2024 varios EPs en solitario y numerosas apariciones en sellos nacionales e internacionales.
Residente del colectivo madrileño Symbole Community y tras haberse dado a conocer en los clubs de la capital, BENZA residirá durante los próximos meses en Berlin para seguir desarrollando su carrera artística.

For Episode 7 there's a special 5-hour set from me, recorded at UKW Kraftwerk Rostock. This set means an incredible amount to me - it was my ‘non’ leap year birthday, and I was actually supposed to play for a whole seven hours. But after a 3.5-hour train journey and an extensive birthday party the day before, my energy was limited.

I've never received such a warm welcome! The UKW team put so much love into this place and have really created something special there. I loved playing there - I totally got into the tunnel! The vibe was perfect and I was able to present my sound exactly the way I want to, because the UKW family totally gets it. Thank you for letting me share this magical moment with you - you guys are amazing!

Have fun dancing and listening to these 5 hours full of sci-fi elements - hypnotic, minimalistic and deep. The set ranges between 141 and 143 BPM and takes you on a journey.

Muski, born and raised in Malta, discovered his passion for electronic music through the local underground techno scene in 2014. Known for his fast-paced, hypnotic style and refined track selection, he began playing gigs shortly after. In 2015, he co-founded Xpose, hosting artists like Newa, Amotik, CJ Bolland, and Exium. Since 2018, he has been a key figure behind In.di.go and waX—two major local events developed with Solid Tracks Records—featuring acts such as ANNĒ, Alarico, KR!Z, and Blasha & Allatt.

"THE TECHNO SCENE IS STRONG AT THE MOMENT....YOU CAN SEE IT FROM THE JAM-PACKED DANCEFLOORS. I WOULD SAY HOWEVER THAT WE NEED LESS PEOPLE USING MOBILES ON THE DANCEFLOOR. IT KILLS THE VIBE, AND THE INDIVIDUAL STOPS BEING PRESENT IN THE MOMENT. THE CONNECTION PEOPLE HAVE WITH THE MUSIC, AND THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CROWD AND THE DJ IS SOMETHING SPECIAL WHEN IT HAPPENS THE RIGHT WAY, AND THAT SHOULD NOT BE LOST."


CAN TECHNO STILL DISTURB, OR HAS IT BECOME TOO COMFORTABLE?

"OVER THE YEARS TECHNO HAS BECOME ONE OF THE MAIN GENRES WHERE PEOPLE CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF COMMUNITY. DESPITE THIS, THE OLD VIEW OF TECHNO, WHICH WAS SEEN AS A KIND OF TABOO GENRE MAKING IT A DISRUPTIVE FORCE, IS SLOWLY FADING MAKING IT MUCH MORE ACCESSIBLE. MORE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE SURROUNDING TECHNO."


IS INNOVATION IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC BEING LED BY SOUND, CONTEXT, OR ATTITUDE TODAY?

"IN THE LAND OF MAINSTREAM TECHNO, I BELIEVE INNOVATION IS BEING DRIVEN BY ATTITUDE. IN CERTAIN CASES, I FEEL THAT TECHNO NO LONGER CARRIES THAT FUTURISTIC VIBE ANYMORE – IT’S TRUE THAT THERE’S A LOT OF GREAT MUSIC COMING OUT BUT TECHNOLOGY HAS MADE IT EASIER FOR LESS MUSICALLY-MINDED ARTISTS AND HAS ALSO STIFLED HUMAN CREATIVITY. IT’S EASIER TO BUILD WHEN THERE ARE ALL THESE TEMPLATES AROUND.
AS IS ALWAYS THE CASE, SOME SUPER TALENTED ARTISTS ARE PUSHING THROUGH THIS AND USING THE IMPROVED TOOLS TO GET EVEN MORE CREATIVE AND PRODUCE SOME AMAZING TECHNO SOUNDS."
