Electrorganic Mixtape: Session 1 (Techno Jazz - Breaks - Electro)

In the galaxy's far reaches, there is a desolate planet. Mesza, with its jagged mountains and barren landscapes, is home to a garden with one very significant flower.

The locals believe that the flower has the power to collect chaos in the universe and keep things in balance. No one knows who built it initially and how. It was a source of great mystery and awe.

One day, the local tribe was eager to study the machine. They set up camp in the garden and began their research. For weeks, they observed, took notes, and wondered at the device.

What is chaos? How does it collect it? And why is there still so much chaos in the galaxy? They couldn't answer the mystery of these questions. There were all sorts of debris flying around the flower and every time they tried to get closer they couldn't reach it. The machine was protected by an impenetrable force field.

With no solution but to leave, they failed in their mission to finally uncover the secrets of the Chaos Collector. The only thing they were sure of is that if something happens to it, things would get much worse. So they vowed to protect it at all costs.

DJ and producer since 2012, he held the position of resident at Kwartz Club for seven years, from 2016 to 2023. During this period, he shared his artistic vision by inviting international artists such as Antigone, Adriana Lopez, Mike Parker, Peter Van Hoesen, Adiel, Stephanie Sykes, Nur Jaber, to name a few.
 

This experience opened doors for the native of the Côte d'Azur, allowing him to perform in numerous clubs and festivals across Europe and beyond. Notable venues include the legendary Parisian barge "La Concrete," Suicide Club in Berlin, Plages Electroniques in Cannes, Zodiak in Brussels, DiscotecaNordest in Vicenza, SpaceMonki in Zurich, and Waxbar in Tunis. 
 

On the production front, Hidden Recordings trusted him from the beginning, releasing several vinyl records with well-established remixers in the electronic scene. His debut, "From Nice To Berlin," produced in Berlin in 2012, was remixed by the highly respected New Yorker, Fred P. In 2018, he also appeared on the Dutch label Dynamic Reflection by the duo Abstract Division, and
in 2020 and 2021, he contributed to two compilations on Coyu's label, Suara Music.

In early 2023, he launched his own label, Cielo Records, with three new releases that mark an innovative point in his production, spanning various musical styles (Downtempo, Deep Techno, Future Groove, and Jungle). These productions have been played by renowned artists such as Richie Hawtin, Rene

OUR man Quantec is nothing if not versatile. An aficionado of many styles including ambient, deep house, Detroit, dub, dubby electronics, experimental and roots reggae, he can turn his hand adeptly across the musical palette. For this his latest release on Neighbour Recordings it’s all about the ‘D’; deep ambient, drone and dub techno that’s dope with a capital ‘D’. Not for nothing is his album titled Journey of Mind. It’s a personal and self-assured trip from first note to last – not surprising for a producer with almost 25 years in the game – drifting as it does through contemplative sonic worlds and ethereal soundscapes. And while the label co-owner’s handiwork here is from the ‘less is more’ school of production, it’s nonetheless big on atmosphere with an undercurrent of drama or melody never too far away. Notable destinations on this journey include Depth of Immersion, Mind Wandering, Motionless and Perfect Stranger. Bon voyage.

Quantec - Perfect Stranger // Neighbour Recordings 004 // 12"

Margus Löve has spent years skillfully mapping the essence of techno music, moving up and down the timeline to incorporate into his sound works elements such as the industrial rhythms transformed by the Yamaha DX7, the e-tablet pop music of Belgian dance floors, cold warehouse raves, the electronic abstractionism of the '90s generation, and the monotonous darkness of Berlin’s (new) school. The styles of different decades are always noticeable in his work, but they come filtered through his own musical lens—one that sifts out individual emotional moments instead of direct copying. These rhythm constructions or tonal textures, filtered with surgical precision, are always delivered back to the listener in a highly minimalist form.

This is also the case with the “Altered” EP (which actually should be labeled a maxi-single), where the minimalism of the tracks could be visualized as a triangle: one point being beats per minute, the second point echo-laden synthesizer sounds (which would be a stretch to call melodies), and the third being the track titles’ tags—dub and rave. The latter, dub and rave, begin to stretch one corner of the triangle, and though the overall number doesn’t change according to Pythagorean theory, the rhythm either accelerates or slows down, other sounds come closer with greater intensity or fade into the mist. While the overall structure remains the same and uses the same materials, the mood offered moves across a broad and rich spectrum.

The construction is simple, brilliantly balanced, and soothingly monotonous. But the words "rave" and "dub" add yet another layer—and this one is subconscious—where the listener imagines these mentioned musical styles in their mind. This fantasy play makes the music itself feel more abundant, offering more than just the recorded bits and bytes can allow.

As a fifth track, there's also “Altered Ambient,” where the beauty of the material’s simplicity comes out especially clearly. Here, everything is fully laid out and the airy space gives a better sense of the sounds used in the track. Flowing very quietly, it gives the listener more time to become familiar with every tiny sonic detail. Beautiful simplicity and the beauty of simplicity—from rave to chill out.

Altered

Margus Löve has been a well known name to darktronica scientists over the years. The solo artist’s starting point after the change of millennium became the technoid end of drum&bass with the bubbling bass waves of speed garage and Löve’s style became substantially directed by dubstep that gained ground at the start of the 2000s. The name L-OW successfully propagated the bass-loving vibe at the prime time of dubstep, and in the background the dub-techno-esque parallel project 1DERL& got more and more off the ground. Founding of the label Processed in 2012 and the release of 1DERL&’s debut album became a spiritual turning point – the allure of the sounds of dubstep shifted to the background and darker soundscapes found a new home in cooler techno trances. Margus Löve has moved still deeper in the swamp of sounds with his new project Exit Safe Mode that is striving to cut through the safety nets and broaden the palette of sounds. The sounds are complemented by darker ambiences and rhythmic skeletons, while staying essentially loyal to the pulsating force of techno. It’s time to discover the shady territories beyond the untrodden tracks.
